Ring the midwife to be on the safe side. It may just be a virus but worth getting it checked out.

TwinkleInSantasEye · 14/12/2006 12:58

I would always ere on the side of caution - it's not worth the risk. Hope you're OK.

rhubarbcat · 14/12/2006 13:14

You shouldn't really take co-codamol when pregnant. Paracetamol is better
Make sure you're drinking plenty of water and ring the m/w just to make sure.

Sackache · 14/12/2006 13:16

wrt Cocodamol.... I was prescribed it by the BUCKET LOAD during both my pregnancies.... for SPD and Headaches..... so I wouldn't worry about that!

I hope you've rung the midwife by now. Like all have said, it's never worth the risk.

lulumama · 14/12/2006 13:18

co-codamol will make you nauseous..should be avoided in pregnancy if possible

..excessive itching in pregnancy needs checking out..esp if you feel ill..call the midwife i think..

Kelly1978GotRunOverByAReindeer · 14/12/2006 13:19

I've also been prescribed it lots in pg and co-proxomol which is stronger. It is absolutely fine I think the only problem that I was told is taht if it is taken on a long term basis it can be habit forming. I had it for a collapsed lung and also pnuemonia in pregnancies.

Sackache · 14/12/2006 13:19

lulumama - Why was I prescribed it just 2 years ago then...at 18wks pg (precription for 100 tablets)??? >confused

lulumama · 14/12/2006 13:19

when it is prescribed, it is prescribed for a reason..would take paracetomal otherwise......

Sackache · 14/12/2006 13:21

Kelly1978 - trully sorry to hear about your reindeer accident. Get well soon!

Sorry.... off topic. Lulumama - don't want to get into a huge debate, but he only wrote the prescription so I wouldn't have to pay for the tablets. I had mild spd.

lulumama · 14/12/2006 13:27

Anything codeine based, especially towards the end of the pregnancy can make the baby sleepy at birth . also it can make you nauseous or sick.

that is why i said best to be avoided if possible.not that it shouldn;t be prescribed at all, i would;t self medicate with it, i would choose paracetomal or nothing if possible,..but for SPD and other painful conditions, when prescribed or given on medical advice.fine

i didn't say it should not be taken, i said should be avoided if possible !

rhubarbcat · 14/12/2006 13:42

Codine is addictive and baby can get withdrawal symptoms if its taken in pregnancy. I would imagine that taking it the odd time wouldn't cause this but personally I wouldn't be happy taking it on a regular basis It doesn't harm the fetus, as in its not thought to be tetrogenic.

It can also cause bad constipation in pregnancy

I take co codamol everyday pretty much, I wouldnt worry to much, it is the next safest thing to take next to just paracetamol
