To buy lists...

Hi - I've been searching the internet for a kind of 'start-up' list of things to buy. This is baby number 1 and although I kind of know what we need, a list would help... Does anyone have one or a web reference to one?
Thanks

try mother and baby magazine

good luck

Gingerbear · 13/12/2006 14:52

Usually about half the crap they suggest in the Mother and Baby Mags.

Boobs or bottles
Clothes - babygros most useful for first 3 months or so.
nappies
Cot or Cotbed (Cotbed lasts longer until they are ready for a proper bed)
Grobags (sleeping bags for babies, better than blankets that can be kicked off)
Wheels
Car seat
Sling

Gingerbear-what are 'wheels' . Soz if I should know!

oooggs · 13/12/2006 22:25

Daisypops - I would guess at a pushchair or pram

Get a copy of Mothercare catalogue, there's a great list at the back of it that will help you out. It's £1 instore and free if you order it online.

Yes, wheels means a pram/pushchair (say no to travel systems, too heavy and big for the boot)

Gingerbear · 13/12/2006 23:29

If you are in the UK, there is a list on page 34 of Emma's Diary (the thing you get with your notes from your midwife)

Thanks all for the advice - much appreciated!

wtf is a "travel system"? Wait - i will google.

lazyemma · 14/12/2006 16:17

oh - one of those. My friends have got one and it seems really good - it's a 3-in-one thing. Plus they've only got a little car and it fits into the boot no problems.

foxtrottothefestivegrotto · 14/12/2006 16:19

no to travel systems - beg or borrow something suitable for the first few months and then get yourself a mclaren stroller.

CouldEquallyHaveBeenAnAardvark · 14/12/2006 16:21

If you plan to breastfeed, don't buy bottles or formula or related clobber - you're statistically less likely to bfeed successfully if you do.

Instead, arm yourself with Lansinoh cream for your nipples, breastpads, and the numbers of the bfeeding support lines.

And don't buy a baby bath - they're a waste of money when you have a bathroom basin

And don't bother with bubble bath either, even baby stuff - no need for it.

Good luck - and keep MN handy!

BibiJesus · 14/12/2006 16:29

I would say scratch mittens - it broke my heart to see DD gouge great big tracks in her beautiful ickle face!

Oh and socks and bibs, no one bought us those! And never get the tie on bibs, far too fiddly!

twickersmum · 14/12/2006 16:59

take a look at www.mamatoto.co.uk
they have a bumper pack with everything you need.
free delivery if you use this code too: KF1ZZ140

paulaplumpbottom · 14/12/2006 17:40

I agree with the bath, we were given three and I have only used it for vomiting in.

Gingerbear · 14/12/2006 22:46

My baby bath is used as a dog bath.
Also as an extra water butt in the garden.

Nouchka · 15/12/2006 12:54

Good advice.
Twickersmum - thanks for web link - will look now.

Also found a pretty good list on www.gomamatoday.com/
