Are swabs safe?

Hi all I'm due to be tested for BV tomorrow and I am worried that the swab can lead to miscarridge!! My gp mentioned something about it and now I'm petrified I'm 7 weeks

The swab is going nowhere near the baby!

Yes they are safe.

Is BV classed as a UTI? I only ask because some UTI s are thought to sometimes lead to premature delivery (I think it may have been a factor for me). I am obviously not objective so please feel free to ignore me but I think they are safe and actually quite necessary if you're prone to infections.

I had a swab for thrush. I think she referred to it as a low swab as she didn't poke in the stick far because of me being pregnant. Maybe your dr will do the same.

No I have been checked for uti and I am clear. My doctor can't do the swabs and said someone specialised must do them as she may irritate the cervix and cause miscarridge which has got me worrying now

Having a swab taken will not cause a miscarriage. Having an untreated infection is not good for you or your pregnancy.
If you think about it logically, then consider what has to be done to induce a mc to medically or surgically terminate a pregnancy.
Please get your test done to protect yourself and your pregnancy.

I am 19+5 and been doing weekly swabs since 7 weeks..They do not cause miscarriages as far as I am aware but an unknown infection can.. My consultant believes my 2 late miscarriages are due to an infection so please please get your swabs done.

Forgot to say I am doing my own every week at home.

Yes they are safe and swabs cannot caused miscarriage.
It's using cotton wool to take a sample of what is there - so it can be sent for testing.

So finally found a clinic that will swab me (my GP refused due to me being pregnant) and got the results I have BV. annoying and worrying but still glad I know and have antibiotics to help!! Glad to be sorted thanks ladies
