will we need a bigger car?

Hello, we have a 4 door Toyota Aygo (old style) which I absolutely love but I'm not sure if it's practical with having a baby and all the gubbins that comes along with it.

Does anyone else have one who can give me any advice (like which buggies will fit - in the boot or back seat).

I had a 5 door Corsa when DD was born and although the buggy did fit in the boot, it was a bit of a skill to get the bits in the right place to get it shut. After about 4 weeks I lost my shit gave in and upgraded.

As long as you get a buggy that fits, a small car is fine on a day to day basis. However, you find things like you can't fit a load of shopping in the boot with the buggy (so have to remember to take the buggy out to go shopping). And if you go away for a weekend, the packing has to be very minimal. Anywhere that requires you to take a travel cot and the adults are down to packing a toothbrush and a change of pants!

I agree that as long as the buggy fits, you'll be fine. So make sure when you go buggy shopping check if it will fit into your boot. It's a very short time thing anyway, as after they can sit up properly, you can switch to a maclaren umbrella fold stroller.

I managed with a 5door Toyota Yaris which was fine for everyday (not every buggy fitted in the boot but my bugaboo bee did). I've still got the car so this time will have baby + 8yo + gubbins.
My yaris would be a little small for a weekend away but school,work, shopping etc it's fine. We have another car as well which we use for trips away.

Meant to say mines an old style yaris so comparable in size to the Aygo

Wonkylegs, you make a good point about it only being a short time so I might see how we get on. We live on an island so no weekends away in the car so that part is not a problem.

I have a 3 door aygo and really cant afford a new car so everything is is going to have to fit somehow!
Like someone else said its probably only going to be a problem trying to get shopping etc in.

Maclaren Techno XLR (and many others) are umbrella strollers and lie flat suitable from birth. Baby jogger city mini might be a good option for a pram too.

Ex mil has an Aygo, we found the quinny Zapp small enough to get in the boot and can also be used as a travel system with maxi cosi car seats. You need a newborn liner for use with babies under 6 months but otherwise a fab little buggy.

We have a 3 door Ford Ka (the old style). Still going strong - DD is nearly 6! We made sure the buggy would fit when we bought it (bugaboo bee) and have been on holiday with the buggy, travel cot, high chair plus luggage. DH is a master packer, it has to be said. And we laugh in the face of larger cars trying to find somewhere to park (London, no off street parking).

I have a Mini & I'm due in March. I can't afford to replace my beloved car so we are just going to have to manage. I've taken my 10 week old nephew & SIL shopping in it & we managed (bags on back seat & foot wells) not ideal, but we did it.

I have a 5 door Clio (old style) and 2 DCs. It's been our family car for 7 yrs although it's almost on its last legs. There's a nack to it but I've managed to fill it for holidays and all sorts.

Thanks all! You've made me feel so much better about it. Like I say, I love my car and I also don't think it's practical (money wise) to go spending money right now on something we don't need.

I have an Aygo too! Due with my first in April, I have taken notes on buggy names to measure up against my boot - thanks! Keep us posted OP what you end up buying to fit in your car. Aygo's are fab wee cars.

We've gone for the Mothercare Roam if it's any help. SIL has a Maxi-Cosi streety & both fit the Mini (though not both at the same time.)

I'm another one with a bugaboo bee it's fab!

I have a Citroen c1 and expecting dc4!!!! Ok we also have a zafira for family days out etc, but I've quite often taken 3 kids out in my c1. The boot easily fits a Maclaren quest and a £50 weekly shop in. And although small, the boot is still bigger then our zafira with all 7 seats up! And if we go on holiday in the car - we just use a roof box.

When I had dc1 12 years ago I drove a fiat cinquecento. The back seat straps wouldn't even fit around her car seat so she had to sit in the front and the rather big and bulky pushchair fitted across the backseat. You manage, because you have too.

We went looking yesterday and ended up buying a Cosatto Giggle 2 in the New Wave pattern because they had a great deal on at the shop which included a free car seat.

DH tried it in our boot and it fits standing up as long as the parcel shelf is out. So pleased with it! Hope that helps yellow

Just make sure you are happy it is secured . In a serious crash, a buggy is a hell of a projectile.

I've got a Peugeot 107 3dr & a iCandy Peach. Never thought it would work but buggy wheels detach & frame fits in boot no bother. Partner has a bigger car for bigger trips
