I am 29 weeks with second baby - just been diagnosed with this - had it last time round, but later on and diet controlled.

Been testing blood sugars since friday and my levels are all over the place - not less than 6 and upto 8.8 at 2 hours after meals.

Don't know where I am going wrong - but I have a stinking cold and sore throat - would this affect the levels???

Eating really well (when feel like it) - no sugar at all - quite well up on reading labels, etc so no problems there - so don't know what is going on!!

I had it but dont know what to advise Im afraid. I ate nothing but fruit, salads and soup for a week and it seemed to help slightly.

I also have GD, am 32 weeks, and also had it with a previous pregnancy. Like you last time round I was unable to control it with diet and sugars were all over the place even though I was on insulin. This time round, even though I'm on insulin I'm still able to control it a lot better. They reccomend low GI foods, look for low GI symbol on packets, carbohydrates with each meal e.g wholegrain/multigrain bread not white, eating 5 small meals. Also because you are eating irregularly this will also cause your sugars to rise and fall dramatically instead of keeping them constant.

I wouldn't worry too much at this early stage it's all a matter of trial and error at the moment and once you understand what does and doesn't work for you you will be better able to control them. I do reccomend investing in a couple of good diabetic cookbooks though as they can give you some diversity in what can otherwise be a really boring diet given what you CAN'T eat being pregnant AND diabetic.

Thanks - I was suspecting that insulin would be the answer - I am having something to eat every 3-4 hours - small meals, etc

I have left a message with my diabetic nurse who will hopefully call me tomorrow - then it can be sorted out!
