Hello im a regular lurker to the conception boards. I've been trying for nearly a year, i have irregular periods, tried ovulation for a week or so with no positive, been taking Sevens Seas Trying or a baby vitamins and then I've been using preseed as well but still no luck... Any tips?

Once you've been trying for a year you can see the gp if still no success. 6 months if over 35 however it is very normal to take a year to conceive so don't worry.
We just used pre seed that's it but everyone is different

Whatsinaname2011 · 22/11/2015 13:32

If you aren't getting a positive ever on an ovulation test AND you've been trying for a year then definitely get to the GP.

TreeSparrow · 22/11/2015 13:33

Have sex every two days if you can. I got pregnant only when I stopped monitoring everything and relaxed. I'm not saying this is the solution but might work.

NoManJan · 22/11/2015 13:33

We TTC for 3.5 years. I finally got pregnant when we had decided to have a break...it seems relaxing about it worked for us. Much easier said than done though, I know!

broodynmoody · 22/11/2015 13:42

I've only tried ovulation last month and that was for about a week trying at around 11am. I've heard it can happen on a night more. .maybe I should have kept going. I'm buying clear blue digital ones this month. It's sooooooo frustrating SadWine

And we have sex 3 times a week. Can't do any more than that really as we both work full time

I have irregular periods and what eventually worked for us was the clear blue ovulation sticks (I ovulated on day 28 the month we conceived), used pre-seed too but I doubt that makes much difference really. For the first few months at least I wasn't tracking ovulation and I think we trying too early in the month. Also I had to track for 14 days before I actually got the positive ov so don't give up too soon as it might just be later (or earlier) than you would expect.

AliciaMayEmory · 22/11/2015 13:46

I TTC for 18 with DC1. I was under a consultant and dietitian as I lost lots of weight in the first 3 months and both said this was a normal amount of time for it to take to become pregnant. Second time round it took around 8 months. It's frustrating, but not indicative of any problems.

IdaClair · 22/11/2015 13:58

It took eighteen months for my first

I never really understood the tracking ovulation and timing things tbh but we have sex most days trying or not and just made sure it included the obvious finale

Worked in the end and it hasn't taken more than two months the three further times I have become pregnant since

broodynmoody · 22/11/2015 14:10

Yeah I think I'm gonna stick with the ovulation digital ones, I'd rather pay the extra and get a more clear result. I'm getting inpatient now, it's been 11 months Angry

Tried for just over a year, had a break for around six months, decided to try again whilst on holiday. Got incredibly drunk one night, swung from chandeliers and that was that.

Seriously - trip to GP and ask them to check your ovulation.

Good luck, it's tough going when it's something you want so much.

Brummiegirl15 · 22/11/2015 15:28

I've been pregnant 4 times (lost 3 sadly) but on each occasion, used the clear blue dual hormone ovulation sticks, they are ridiculously expensive but they work!!! Wouldn't try without them if I'm honest

lemon101 · 22/11/2015 15:33

tried for 6 months (giving up all booze and fags - continuing to do a lot of exercise), got stressed out. Gave up and went on holiday where we relaxed and drank, smoked and partied our way around some lovely cities, came back to find that it was now really inconvenient to get pregnant and immediately got up the duff.

I understand your impatience after 11 months but also know better now that it does often take longer than that and its just sods law that everyone around you will just need to think about sex and get pregnant. I really do wish you luck and hope that it works out for you soon (I do remember how much ttc can weigh on you).

60sname · 22/11/2015 15:36

Tracked cm and used Preseed. I couldn't get a clear result with the ovulation sticks (used pound shop ones though)

ammature · 22/11/2015 15:39

I read taking charge of your fertility for natural family planning and think this really helps with understanding your cycle etc. I think cervical mucous is the most important indicator of fertility so keep an eye on that. We also did the egg and spearm plan- think you need to have sex more often- that helped us. God luck!

broodynmoody · 22/11/2015 15:40

Thanks for the replies. It does get you down after a bit when everyone is getting pregnant so easily. It's only a matter of time before my bunny boiler sister in law pulls another stunt and has her second kid, my parents want me to have a child before she pops out another one and so would I. But no doubt she'll pop out a girl, my parents with then have a grandson and granddaughter while their 27 year old daughter just looks on Envy

I found cheap opks very usual for both of my pregnacies, you should do them from day 9ish ad twice a day, they always worked for me but others may disagree.

socktastic · 22/11/2015 16:41

I used and followed opk religiously for 7 months with absolutely no success. Went as far as talking to the doc about it and having blood tests to check for ovulation or possibly pocs.
Dr told me that actually the opks are not very reliable and they just cause user and stress which is not conducive to conceiving. She recommended putting them in a cupboard and forgetting about them and having sex every 2-3 days and.just being relaxed about it.

I fell pregnant that month.

KatyN · 22/11/2015 17:02

I didn't get any success from the ovulation sticks either. The month I got pregnant we didn't have sex at all during the period I thought I was ovulating.

It is horrid waiting, hope you get pregnant soon. Kx

cloudjumper · 22/11/2015 17:17

Have you tried temping? It really helped me to understand my cycles and track ovulation accurately. You can get a basal body temp thermometer on Amazon for a fiver.
But yes, get your GP to check your progesterone levels to see if you are actually ovulating at all.

Purplehonesty · 22/11/2015 17:19

Both times with me I waited two days after my period and then did it every day for four or five days.
Job done - I ovulate really early in my cycle!

maybebabybee · 22/11/2015 17:24

Do you check your cervical fluid? I would also strongly recommend temping as its the only thing that tells you with certainty if you definitely ovulated or not. I don't find ovulation tests reliable personally - never got a positive on one and got pregnant twice in a very short space of time so clearly did ovulate!

Vikkijayne2507 · 22/11/2015 17:58

As others said opks not for everyone but i liked them to give me a gauge of the time. I however had sex this time on the monday, wednesday and saturday, i got positive opk on the friday night and saturday morning, i think every 2 or 3 days give the sperm time be good quality, if not go to ur drs after a year you can get help

toohardtothinkofaname · 22/11/2015 18:15

I tracked everything I possibly could & took anything I heard could help, even did acupuncture.

The month I sacked it all off because I didn't want to get pg & have a Christmas baby? BFP haha. Think chilling out must have done the trick. I had long cycles too, we're talking 90+ days.

mrsmugoo · 22/11/2015 18:15

I charted my bbt and also used clearblue digital ov tests and timed dtd around ovulation. The month we conceived we had only dtd twice - once 2 days before and once on the morning of ovulation.

I had a short luteal phase of 7/8 days though so sought medical advice after 10 months of charting (6 months of trying) Got totally fobbed off by the NHS but a private fertility consultant diagnosed luteal phase defect straight away and prescribed progesterone pessaries. Conceived first month on them.
