Leg and hip pain at 6 weeks!

Hi all.

Just wondering if anyone can tell me if this is normal or not? It's my first ever pregnancy and I'm currently around 6 weeks and been experiencing some real aches and pains in my left leg and hip.

My left leg feels really heavy like its about to go dead and my hip is so sore. Seems worse when I'm in the car driving quite some distance.

Just wondering if this is a normal early stage symptom or if I should be more concerned?

Thank you :)

Hello

I'm 6+4 I do have a condition that causes my joints to be more flexible and I've found the symptoms have increased - but I also get a heavy ache feeling in my legs, but I'm shattered constantly

If your worried chat to your GP

We also have a little piece of mumsnet for babies July 2015 (2) if you want to join us :)

MrsNikiC · 18/11/2015 23:39

Yeah, that would be good. Think my due date is 13 July.

I am at the doctors tomorrow so will mention it then. The aching is so bad and all down my left side. I have hyper mobile joints so maybe it's something to do with that. Will certainly ask.

Thank u xXx

Was going to ask if you're hypermobile. It would be worth asking about the possibility of a referral to physio. Don't hold back when you describe symptoms, everybody gets some degree of hip pain but it's unusual to get it this early on, so early intervention will be key.

EllieJayJay · 18/11/2015 23:57

I have EDS-III which one symptom is hyper mobility so definetly chat to the doctor as my symptoms are definetly worse - there is a chemical that your body produces to prepare you for childbirth (can't remember name was having a bout of insomnia when poped on and now I'm super sleepy) but that causes joints to relax ready for the big event :) I'm seeing my specialist consultant soon so was going to discuss with them but have kind of assumed it's more than likely related to that chemical/hormone reaction :)

Wish you luck!

TeamBacon · 19/11/2015 00:39

Relaxin is the hormone. It makes the ligaments more stretchy, but it fucks up your hips.

TeamBacon · 19/11/2015 00:40

Ellie Flowers that must be tough.

EllieJayJay · 19/11/2015 17:23

That's it Relaxin :)

It's not all bad, it's basically extra collegean in your body so at least I look younger :) and hoping this will also mean i might escape some stretch marks although I am drenching my skin in cream very regularly!!

What did the doctor say OP??

MrsNikiC · 19/11/2015 18:36

Well she said not to worry. Basically said that if it was still bothering me in a couple of weeks to come back then as aches and pains are normal and should go away this early on. Here's hoping as it's a real pain. Think my husband wasn't expecting to have to do all the dog walks this early on!!!

Not entirely helpful I suppose! But I hope it clears up for you - but must be quite nice not having to walk the dogs in the cold weather :) I think this is why I have cats

Good luck with everything!!

MrsNikiC · 20/11/2015 14:56

Thank you. Really appreciate that. It seems better today. Been back in the gym so hopefully it will just go away. Thanks for everyone's comments. It's been really helpful :) xXx

There is a condition called pelvic girdle pain that is just as you describe. It's unusual, but not unheard-of, for symptoms to begin so early. Unfortunately, GPs often don't know a lot about it and stick to the 'aches and pains are normal' line. That's a problem because it's actually very important to get treatment early with pelvic girdle pain. If you'd like to know more, there is a very good website called 'Pelvic Partnership' with a helpline. They will advise you to see an experienced manual practitioner who will (if necessary) realign your pelvis (which may have become unbalanced/unsupported due to the body changes during pregnancy). NHS guidelines are that a pelvic girdle pain diagnosis should be urgently referred to a Well Woman physio (I think). So if these problems don't clear up quickly, have a look at the website and get your referral in the works because there will be a waiting list and it might take a while to get past the information session etc.

MrsNikiC · 20/11/2015 16:06

Thank you.

That's really helpful to know. If I'm still suffering after my midwife referral I'll definitely go back about it.

Thank u :)

Hi im 13+3 now but I had pains like that during the beginning around the same time, same heavy leg feeling etc but its all gone now!

Hope you are feeling better soon Grin

OhWhatAPalaver · 20/11/2015 21:08

I have really bad left hip/leg pain, I'm only 8 weeks. In my last pregnancy I think I had way too much relaxin in my body and all my joints were painfully hypermobile and messed up for ages. I'm terrified it'll happen again with this pregnancy as it was horrendous but can't really do much about that now! I have zero stretch marks though but that is the only plus side to the whole thing!

MrsNikiC · 22/11/2015 20:30

Thanks all. Just a relief to hear it isn't so rare. Thought it was odd this early on so good to know I'm not the only one xXx

Hi Niki. Did the hip pain end up to be nothing to worry about? I'm currently getting a left hip and ovary pain at 6 weeks pregnant. Any advise on this?

You all give the worste advice on this site its so weird this site is full of just rude misinformed people. You can absolutely have growing pains at 6 weeks there is nothing wrong with that and you don't have some rare disorder for goodness sakes you're growing a baby

I know this is an old comment but you replied
to an 8 year old thread...

Also the only rude person on this thread was you I find it highly ironic you came onto this thread accusing people of being rude to each other when all they're doing is informing and helping each other and it's clear some of these people have the 'rare disorders' you're on about or they wouldn't be trying to inform the OP.

Absolutely crazy you even tried to call anyone else rude honestly. The advice I've got from this site has helped ease my worries majority of times and helps keep me informed. So speak for yourself, no bad advice I've seen on this thread.
