Back pain

Not back ache, but back pain... lower back but not my spine, and in two definite specific points on either side at the back. If I sneeze, it hurts. My legs give way when I stand up if I have been sitting too long or when I get out of bed... and I can't walk properly for a few steps. Is this normal and should I stop whinging or is it something I need to see someone about? I'm only 16 weeks and am worried about it carrying on as I get heavier...

That isn't normal. You should see your doc and get a referral for physio.

Thankyou... am I right in thinking back ache is normal? I just don't want to make a fuss over nothing! It's so confusing, knowing what is normal and what isn't!! I will definitely call the doctor tomorrow though.

Sounds like sciatic/ pelvic girdle/ trapped nerve pain. Very unpleasant. I get it on and off, particularly at night when I get up to pee.

Drs for a physio referral is a good idea.

I've had pain very similar to that for the last week or so (I'm 20 weeks). My GP prescribed me painkillers (didn't take them as I'm a bit paranoid about taking medications while pregnant) and also referred me to a physio. The physio said it's probably a problem with the joints in the pelvis and is common in pregnancy. They've referred me to a physio who specialises in treating pregnant women.

So, my understanding based on that experience I s that although some back / pelvis pain is normal and not something to worry about, there's plenty they can do to treat it and stop it becoming any worse. I'd definitely speak to your GP and ask to see a physio.

Hope you feel better soon!
