I probably need a slap - but twins?

I'm about 9 weeks and suffering dreadful hyperemesis, which is probably why I'm overthinking/worrying/need a slap. I have a 3 yr old and a very nearly 1 yr old. This latest pregnancy was totally unplanned and I'm very Shock about having 3 under 4.

I've lost a lot of weight and noticed a little roundness at the bottom of my emaciated tum, so I had a feel and can definitely palpate uterus, about an inch above my pubic bone. This will be my 4th pregnancy (2nd was a late mmc) could this just be because I'm a multip or whatever they say in the trade?! I am panicking that it might be twins thanks to the sickness and the height of the fundus! 4 under 4 would just be ShockShockHmm

I did have a scan in hospital at about 6 weeks but it didn't show much - they didn't mention twins but they did abdominal rather than tv and did say they couldn't see much (did thankfully see enough to get a heartbeat tho)

Any sonographers out there to slap me and say that if there were two they would have been spotted before? Put my mind at rest someone pleaaassse!

My twins were clearly visible in two separate sacs at 6+5.

Smile reassuring, thanks Guy

Wouldn't twins have shown two heartbeats at the scan?

Hope you feel better and speak with the midwife if you're really concerned.

ISeeIt · 12/11/2015 17:48

That's what I would hope but dr Google says at that stage they often can't even find one, everything's so tiny. The other thing they did mention was that the gestational sac was measuring about a week ahead. But they didn't seem concerned

This is strange... I could of wrote your post word for word! Same age kids, 3rd pregnancy for me (sorry for your loss), 8 weeks pregas and feel appalling.

I can hardly keep my eyes open, feel sick constantly (only been sick once, neither previous pregnancies had much morning sickness), lost a bit of weight, defo got a bump, and the really weird one; I'm sure I felt movement (and I do know the difference between movement and wind!).

I've convinced myself it's twins and am veering between excitement and utter terror of having 4 under 4. Only the scan will tell, let me know how you get on!

Will do, arghh you too! Terrifying times

My uterus was always palpable at 9 weeks. It's because I have a short abdomen and a shallow pelvis. I've only ever had singleton pregnancies.

I also know a few Mums of twins and they had a real mix of experiences. A couple had fewer symptoms and less nausea with twins than they did with singleton pregnancies.

It could be a multiple pregnancy but equally, you could just be experiencing the hideousness of hyperemesis and the stress and strain of another pregnancy less than a year after having your last baby, all while parenting a 3yo.

They could see twins at 6 weeks, don't worry x

ISeeIt · 12/11/2015 18:30

Thank you reassurers. Feeling calmer. I'd worked myself into quite a tizz

Two heartbeats were very clear just before 6 weeks for me Smile so I would concur with PP it's not likely BUT I had a t.v scan so that does make a difference, obviously.

ChatEnOeuf · 12/11/2015 18:39

Only a scan will help, I'm afraid! I had rip-roaring symptoms about 3 days before AF was due with my twins, they were both visible at 6w. A good friend of mine had MCDA twins that were only detected at 13w.

gillyweed · 12/11/2015 19:58

I meant to say earlier, have you had your bloods done yet? I haven't but have all the classic signs of iron deficiency - started on spatone this week and I think it has reduced my symptoms slightly, but defo making me feel a bit better!

ISeeIt · 12/11/2015 20:09

I haven't no, thanks for the tip, gilly.
