Painful groin area. Owww... what's causing it?

I'm 34 weeks pg with my second child and for the last few weeks I've had really bad pains in my pubic/groin area and inner thighs when I move. I find it hard to walk too far and trying to get up and down the stairs is a nightmare.

I never had this with my first pregnancy. What could be causing it? Do you think I should trouble my GP or will he just tell me that it's part of the joys of being pregnant? It's making me really miserable as I can't get out like I used to be able to. Any advice?

Sounds like it could be SPD to me - symphysis pubis disorder. I had this with DD, absolute agony. If I were you I would ring your midwife and ask for an appointment - a support belt can help - although if you search the threads on this some people have more success with them than others.

Went to see my GP today but as suspected he just passed it off as joint pain from carrying my baby. I was told to take paracetamol when needed and make sure I rest (like that's possible when looking after a toddler!!).

Will see my midwife on Monday and will definitely mention SPD as my symptoms match the information you've posted on here. Thanks for your help!

I've got this and its miserable.. Sometimes its just awful but other days I can be a bit more mobile. You should be able to get a referral to for physiotherapy. Apparently pelvic floor exercises can also help. A homeopath I know has suggested Ruta as a remedy but I haven't tried this yet.

You need to speak to your midwife. I had this and brought it up with my GP, but was told that it's just part of being pg. I couldn't get in and out of bed and ended sleeping on the recliner for 6 weeks before the birth of dd3.

I had her at 41 weeks and she weighed in at 10lbs 1 oz. But the pain afterwards was worse than before. The midwife at hospital told me that I had a split pubic bone and only offered me strong painkillers. I couldn't even lift up my child cos bending over caused pain. I went to see a specialist recommended by a friend afterwards and he helped me to cure the problem after 3 months.

Dd3 is 21 months now, to be honest it has put me off sex. The thought of spreading my legs just brings tears to my eyes. I would not wish anyone to have to go through what I did. My advice, tell your midwife about your concerns now.

Good Luck.
