Retroverted uterus?

On my notes it says I have a retroverted uterus. What is this? The lady didn't really explain

I've got one too - basically it just means that instead of the uterus sloping forward towards the tummy it slopes back towards the back.

I think it's quite common (like 25% of women of something)

Generally causes no issues (I had no problems with dd). Very rarely (like 1 in 3000) your uterus can get trapped - you wouldn't be able to wee properly then so I think quite obvious.

(I reckon it's why I get backache rather than normal period pain?)

Thank you. She didn't say much and I don't think I had it with my first baby!

I have it too, it's never caused me any problems. Only thing I was told is sometimes it makes it slightly different for a nurse to do a smear etc because of the different angle or something?

RingDownRingUp · 07/11/2015 13:03

Very common.

Just can make scans trickier than normal ime.

Chloeisobelle21 · 07/11/2015 13:14

Well when I went for my 1st scan she told me off because I hadn't drank enough so she said she had to push down really hard. But then mentioned the uterus. So could of been why

I have one too. And I at my 12 week scan and a private scan at 16 weeks it was harder to see and get her to change positions (even though she wriggled a lot) I have my 20 week scan next week. I read that it means it is positioned slightly differently in accordance with your bladder, I wonder why that is why I am going to the toilet so much at night. As OP said I don't think it is anything to worry about. Funnily enough smear tests are always awkward for me, so this is probably why!
