posterior unfavourable cervix

Does anyone else have a posterior 'unfavourable' cervix? Did this mean you couldn't go into labour without induction and did it affect your birth at all? Midwife said this is why she can't perform successful sweeps and I'm very unlikely to go into labour naturally. Just wondered if this were always true for others or if anyone still went into labour last minute before induction with a posterior cervix?

I had this. That evening my waters broke, still didn't go into labour until the following evening. Was admitted to labour ward at 2am to be told cervix was still posterior, DS born 7.30am, so a quick labour in the end. Incidentally I was due to be induced at 8.30am that day as I was 10days over.

Not sure if it's relevent but they also had trouble locating my cervix when they fitted/removed a coil so maybe it's naturally just far back???

Thank odog, this is good to hear. I am starting to feel better about it all the more I know so at least that's something. I think I'm just stressed as I still feel like I could do or change something but I guess all that matters is that baby gets here safely

I have a posterior unfavourable cervix! I have never been induced with all three of my 3 children and once underway, labour has progressed ok. I have had two sections and a vbac in the middle, but not for reasons directly related to the unfavourable cervix.

I had this and it was near impossible to do the first sweep, which failed anyway. Cervix was right at the back. Second sweep was done when I was 9 days over, I was told cervix was still right at the back and still not in position for labour. It was hard to do the second sweep but she told me she just about managed and she 'pulled the cervix down' with her finger which I didn't know you could do, anyway it worked and I had my baby next day, 2 days before induction.

Thanks willow, that's really helpful to know!

Hey, thanks for asking! Had another failed sweep today (most painful thing in the world) but decided to go in for induction so in hospital tomorrow! Eeek! Bit scared :-(

I had a posterior, unfavourable and mostly uneffaced cervix right up to 40+7 when midwife attempted a second sweep. I had previously been told about 5 days earlier when I had seen a consultant at the assessment unit due to reduced movement (all fine btw), that it would be virtually impossible to go into labour without being induced. Anyway, that was about 2pm on the Thursday and I went into labour in bed at 2am Friday morning. Contractions were quite mild until that afternoon. I went into hospital at 5.30pm and dd was born at 8.50pm, in the birthing pool as I had hoped. Hope this helps.

I really do not understand when medics say it would be impossible to go into labour

I accept that there could be very adverse outcomes of there was no intervention but are they genuinely saying that sometimes would remain pregnant for the rest of their lives. That just not seem medically very possible Confused
