Hello,

I am 9 weeks pregnant and everything is going great so far.
Before knowing I was pregnant I booked 3 weeks holidays in New Zealand and Fiji for a friend’s wedding in February 2016. By the time I need to go there I will be 25 weeks and 28 weeks at my return.

Do you think I should go ahead with the holidays plan? I am used to long-haul flights to North America and Latin America for work/visit family. However, New Zealand is the longest flight in the planet and this is my first pregnancy! Do you think this will be too dangerous for the baby?

Thanks for your advice!

Talk to your GP and midwife. And look at your insurance cover, and inform them of your pregnancy. Also look at what would happen if you had to cancel.

However this is usually in the best bit of pregnancy, so if there is no medical reason why not so would probably go ahead. You may need to move around on the flight and wear flight socks/stockings.

It should be fine, get an aisle seat, move about and drink. Put your notes in your hand luggage or take photos.

I can't stress enough the need for adequate insurance for you and the baby (there's so many threads on here where people are surprised they aren't automatically covered by fit to fly) make sure they cover premature birth AND care for the baby. Unlikely, but if any complications arise between now and then make sure you inform your insurer.

Have a lovely trip.

As long as there are no complications with your pregnancy and you have insurance then I see no issue. I'm 28weeks today and this last 3 or so weeks has been the best for me. But tired though.

Definitively get insurance that covers pregnancy. And I would check with the airline if you will need a note from your doctor that you are fit to fly. Probably not so much for 25 weeks, but very likely at 28 - some airlines start their restrictions quite early.
Have a great holiday!

I flew to US at 22 wks and home at 24 weeks (I'm now 26 wks) and was absolutely fine.

I booked my insurance through insure & go as they insure pregnancy to 32 weeks. I had an aisle seat and drank loads of water, wore flight socks and moved about loads.

I flew with Virgin Atlantic and up until the end of your 28th week, you do not need any documentation other than your green notes confirming your due date should you be asked.

This is is exactly the same for BA and many of the other scheduled long haul carriers. Obviously you need to check with your particular airline - for example some of the charter airlines insist on a fit to fly note however pregnant you are!!

So just make sure your midwife is ok with it and check check and double check your airlines policy. Also make sure exactly when you are flying back at 28 weeks. What you don't want is to say change flights in Dubai / Bangkok for example on the way home and this rolls over into 29 weeks and you haven't got a fit to fly note.

But I loved my holiday and was so glad I went! Flight was absolutely fine.
