Concerned about nuchal scan date

Hi all - was after advice re nuchal scan. We're very sure we want this scan done due to age factors etc and my letter has just come through with an appointment at 13+6. I'm very uncomfortable with this as I understand it's the last possible day for the test and if I'm a few days out it might then be too late.

My DP thinks I should call tomorrow and tell a bit of a lie and say we're away that week to try and get a new appt earlier. I hate lying but I do see his point that they might say tough otherwise. What do you think?

Other option is private but I have no idea where to go - suggestions please (I'm in the east/South East - could travel to London if needed)

NHS guidelines suggest between 11+2 and 14+1 so you should be ok.

I would try and change it. Don't lie, just tell them you think you will be about 14 weeks by then and really want the nuchal test.

I would also try and change it.

We were in the same boat as you with regards to dates, got to the scan and they said they couldnt do the measurement as the baby was too big.

We ended up having to have the other test later down the line - the blood test one, all ended up fine, but we were annoyed we couldnt get the nuchal scan done as planned. Good luck

I would try and change it- at my scan my due date was changed by a week so if this happens to you then you would be unable to have the nt test.

I turned up to my scan on Monday at 13 weeks only to be told I was actually 13+5 (made sense due to very short cycles before getting pregnant). She did say that the baby's length was the determining factor. If it had reached 8mm then they couldn't do it. If you have a long baby or your dates are out a bit, that's certainly quite tight.

Definitely call to see if you could get a cancellation.

Thanks all. I called and despite the strongly worded letter that stated it was the very earliest available appointment and only to change it in an emergency I had no problem moving it forward a week - even had a choice of times. So luckily was worried about nothing - think everything stresses me at the moment!!

Oh I'm so glad. Always pays to ask! At least now you can go and bit a bit more relaxed.
