Why does it stop start so much? Start getting strong stomach cramps and think this could be the start of labour then it all stops! It's the most drawn out process ever!!!

If it is proper and contractions they should only last about 60 seconds well thats what my mw told me as i live about 40mins from the hospital i asked about everything. Hope all is going well and you have your bundle of joy soon x

Thanks melmam, got a feeling I'm miles off! It's just tummy cramps not contractions and I had it for around 2 hours now nothing :-(

I knew this post would be you! Smile I think this must be the only time in your life you actively wish pain upon yourself.

Ladypug · 21/10/2015 21:06

Haha hello fellow mum-in-waiting!

I'm actually starting to get some quite painful ones now, last one hurt!! Surely that's a good sign?

Ladypug · 21/10/2015 23:47

I had stop start contractions from about 20 weeks. They were just braxton hicks even though some were verging on painful rather than just uncomfortable and at times they would be every 4-5 mins for up to 2 hours.
On the bright side it meant my uterus was super ready for the actual childbirth event and when my waters went my real contractions started about 20 mins afterwards and the whole labour and birth was over in two hours. If it had been my first baby I would have been co concede that I was starting labour on numerous occasions, but I knew from experience that the real ones would be much more ouchy.
The practice contractions are helpful, although it is annoying when you start timing them and getting hopeful only for them to tail off and stop.

Ah thanks loobrush, it's all very disheartening!

Lady, can I suggest you try invoking the law of sod? Wink. Stop focusing on labour/bhs (hard I know), book in something lovely for each day - pre natal massage, nail appointment, cinema trip, lunch with a friend etc and whatever happens, just carry on with your plans. You will know it's time when despite your best efforts you actually cannot continue doing what you planned to do ( because you cannot speak/sit through the contractions/the other cinema goers are getting fed up with your screaming Wink).

Ladypug · 22/10/2015 12:35

Thanks it takes two but I can't afford to do any of those things :-(

Sad

Can you plan to take your lunch outside somewhere for a (bench based) picnic? Go and do a window shopping trip? Have you had a look to see if there are any nct coffee mornings near you (free to attend in my area)...

Ladypug · 22/10/2015 14:09

I don't have any transport either and in a new place as just moved house but have found out there are some new mum groups a few miles away so although not suitable now, once baby comes they will be. Have a friend visiting me at home later though :-) just wish it wasn't this tough mentally! Although at 40 weeks I shouldn't be waiting too much longer!

Hurrah for visiting friend! Yep a lot of me motherhood is tough mentally unfortunately. Grit your teeth - you have a lot on your plate and are doing great!

Ladypug · 22/10/2015 17:50

Thanks takes two, think I will feel better once baby is here as at least I will be able to walk and drive again! :-)

Hi Ladypug! Try going for walks outdoors to get your pelvis swinging. That and spicy food have been known to kickstart things if you are anxious to meet your baby. Also suggestions to pamper yourself great idea...how about a salt water foot soak in front of your fave TV programme?
