Fibroid v. near cervix

I've just had my anomaly scan (I'm 21+0) and I'm pleased to report that all is looking good with my baby boy. The only thing they picked up was that I have a fibroid very close to my cervix.

I knew I had a fibroid, although I didn't know where, and it's never caused issues before. But apparently it's common for them to get bigger in pregnancy and the location of this particular one might be a little inconvenient! The (lovely) sonographer said that I'll probably have another scan later on to check size and position, and if it ends up blocking the exit we may be thinking c-section.

I'm not terribly worried. As long as the baby and I are OK, then fine. I would prefer not to have a c-section, but if it ends up that I have to then fine. I'm not going to get wound up about it. But I was just wondering if anyone else had experience of this, and whether you ended up giving birth vaginally or via c-section?

I have a really big fibroid, which was discovered during my first pregnancy. Mine isn't close to the cervix, but they noted it and kept an eye on it (I had extra scans, although not because of the fibroid). It didn't grow and did not cause any issues with birth (I did have a cs, but for entirely different reasons).
I'm now pg again, and they are still not worried about it - it has stayed the same size (but I now have more fibroids as well).

I wouldn't worry too much - they know about it, and they will keep an eye on it due to its position. If you start bleeding or have any other issues, I would mention it to whoever looks after you.

Thanks cloudjumper! I'm trying just to be philosophical about it, and it's a c-section then so be it. There's not much I can do. Thankfully I've not had any bleeding in this pregnancy so far, but it's something I'll bear in mind.

Hello fizzy :)

I have fibroids, some big (8cm) and some small (1.5cm). I haven't had my baby yet but he's due next week.

My fibroids are dotted all around but the ones I have lower down haven't stopped him from engaging or getting into position thankfully.

Do you know how big the one near your cervix is?

Hi Llouh! Sorry, just spotted your reply. I'm actually not sure. I know she measured it, and she said she's put it all in the system so my midwife will see it at my next appointment, but I stupidly didn't think to ask her what size it was. She just said it had grown since my 12 week scan. She said it was "completely lateral" to my cervix, and would need an eye kept on it in case it got in the way of the baby's head.
