Winter coat for baby wearing

Hi all,

I'm due end of November and even though we've got a pram of course, I'm also planning on using a sling quite often, and started looking for a warm winter coat that can go over the baby in a sling in winter. The possibility of wearing it afterwards (the ones with removable insert) would be a great bonus. Any recommendations from wise MNers as to which one would suit best? Also, I'm size 10 usually, should I go for my usual size?

Thanks a lot!

Following as I am also interested!

I have been wearing stretchy hoodies that zip up the front so I can zip us both inside up to my babies head and this has worked brilliantly for us so far... I have found that anything that fitted over my massive bump in the last 4 weeks also fits over my baby in the sling. I am not sure about how this would work with a wool coat etc but I was going up a couple of dress sizes / hoodie sizes and they have all fitted fine.

I got one of those Trespass hiking coats, with the fleece insert, probably a size larger than I would usually wear and that just stretched around me and the baby

I have just bought this one from Next with the maternity panel. www.next.co.uk/g623022s1#350931

I am hoping it will do me with baby in a sling and also be a good basic coat next year. It feels warm and I like the fact it covers my rear!

I'm waiting for this one to arrive from Vertbaudet

www.vertbaudet.co.uk/3-in-1-maternity-parka-green-dark-solid.htm?ProductId=001000009&FiltreCouleur=6719&t=1

It's designed for baby wearing (baby even has it's own little hood!) and the panel can be taken out and worn as a normal coat too.

As I'm waiting for it I've not worn it myself yet. But the reviews are really good, and I think they've been really popular, hence the stock on order! Plus there's a few discount codes going around at the mo so it's pretty affordable too.

I just wore a wide scarf which I wore over neck and wrapped each side over the baby bump/ or child in sling at front. Normal coat covering my back and arms and sides

I bought a trespass warm waterproof coat in a size 14 (I'm usually a 8-10) when I had DS. It fitted over my giant bump and then again when he was in the sling. I've used it loads since too it's fab when you want to wear a thick jumper.

Just to add, the thing with getting something like a Tresspass/hiking coat is that it's fantastic if you have a baby that sleeps well in the pram and you still need to go out for epic walks in the pissing rain every day Grin

(Honestly, one of my biggest tips for new mums is to get a proper raincoat, some decent shoes and Audible to keep you amused if you end up walking a marathon every day)

Have a look on Lenny Lamb, they have baby wearing coats. They're pricey but can be worn with baby on front or back and can also be worn with no baby So you get your money's worth. I love mine!

BadgerFace · 14/10/2015 20:37

I've got the Vertbaudet one, it's lovely and soft and the insert is great. My baby's not due until January but I'm looking forward to snuggling up in the coat. They have 30% off deals sometimes (which is when I bought mine) which makes it a bit more affordable.

Nousername2015 · 14/10/2015 21:22

Seriously considering the vertbaudet coat, do you know if the sizing is generous or did you get a size bigger?

oneyorkshirepud · 14/10/2015 21:48

Sizing is very generous! I ordered an 8 without thinking as that is my normal pre pregnancy size, and it's big! They didn't have any 6s in stock though so I just kept it and look a bit swamped. There is no way that a backside this big is a size 6 given my cravings for chocolate! So I would go for a size smaller. It's lovely and warm though with big pockets. Looking forward to baby walks in it!

hopelesslydevotedtoGu · 14/10/2015 21:54

I have a Suse Kindercoat which can be worn for front and back carries with a zip out panel.

Hughpughbarneymagrew · 15/10/2015 06:21

I've got the vertbaudet one and it's lovely. All soft and snuggly. Agree the sizing is generous though. If I were buying again I'd go a size smaller than normal.

PotteringAlong · 15/10/2015 06:23

I just wear my husbands and it fits round both of us!

MazyCrummy · 15/10/2015 10:14

I've got the Verbaudet one too, and while I agree the arms/back/bust is generous, it only just fastens over my 29w bump. The baby wearing insert does look a good size though, and it is lovely and warm.

bunny85 · 15/10/2015 22:09

Thanks everyone for the advices! Now just the matter of choosing which one I like the most Smile

I had the Kindercoat - loved the fleece bit but found the waterproof bit rather crackly. It was my best (second) baby buy - no problems with buggy and holding toddler and umbrella, and after a bit of practice I could even flip it over by myself for a back carry, which is brilliant for older babies.

teamrigby · 16/10/2015 11:52

I'm waiting on the khali Verbaudet one to arrive as due 15 Dec :)
