Housing help :(

I need some advice! I am currently pregnant with my first and the pregnancy was a bit of a surprise, so I am still living at home with my parents in a very very small house at the age of 23. Me and my partner were saving to go travelling so we are lucky in the fact we have some money saved so decided to look into part rent part buy. There aren't THAT many properties (I live in South East in a sought after area so very expensive) so our options are a bit limited. We have looked at a couple of flats, and have found one be both like - it's only real downfall is that it is on the second floor. What makes my situation a bit harder is that I have a lot more things to consider as I am actually visually impaired - the location of this property is great, as it has good transport links, next door to a nursery, walkable distance to town and shops ( I cannot drive) however the struggle of the stairs worries me. It's not the visual impairment so much that worries me but the getting everything up and down 2 flights of stairs ever day?! Is it really plausible? I feel I am more than capable of doing it and that it's a compromise I'm going to have to make to live somewhere that is good in every other aspect. Maybe someone else has some experience of living in a flat, with no lift and how and if thy coped. My baby is due in March and I really want to get a move on because I do not want to be living at home when baby comes!! Sorry for such an essay, thank you in advance for any replies xx

If you haven't lived together before, why not rent for a year or so first?

It is doable, I would recommend a sling for the baby they are ideal for this sort of situation, If you also want some form of pushchair for the baby then something like the Maclaren Quest would be ideal as it is also light enough to easily carry up and down stairs.

Lived in a flat like you describe when dd1 was born. You learn to work around it to be honest. Taking a back pack for example if you're popping out to the shops rather than shopping bags. Also getting a big shop delivered is helpful.

I bought a travel system so that I could leave the chassis at the bottom of the stairs and just carry the carseat or carrycot part up the stairs when DD was small. They can walk before you know it, so it's not a long term problem.

You'll find the location more inportant I think. I was near shops, cafes, playgroups etc, so meant we could get out more and socialise.

Oh yes yes to the sling or carrier!

Sorry calypso I should have said I do actually live with him already, he lives with me and my parents. Yes I was thinking a sling is the way forward! Thank you for your replies, it's made me feel a bit more positive knowing it is do-able. :)
