Transverse, GD, excess fluid and the rest [sad]

Well I've had a shit day Sad.

Went for a normal midwife appointment this morning and the midwife thought the baby was transverse, so sent me to the hospital for a scan. Scan confirmed transverse, but also excess amnio fluid and a big tummy (baby, not me. Though me too I guessBlush)

So I have to go back tomorrow for a Glucose Tolerance Test to see if I have gestational diabetes and even if I haven't I am going to be admitted next Thursday (37 weeks) until the baby comes unless it turns in the mean time Sad. They wouldn't say when they thought I would deliver. Just said they would 'be in no rush'.

I have a DS, so I don't know how a long hospital stay would work practically, but I am quite an anxious person anyway and I just feel sick with worry. I just want to crawl into bed and cry Sad.

Positive stories of late diagnosis GD, excess amnio fluid and transverse babies all welcome. Or just a hug would be nice actually Sad

(((Hug)))

Can't offer any advice but I hope a hug helps Flowers

Thanks Paperblank, it does help. I feel very upset about it. I am such a worrier anyway Sad.

Big unmumsnetty hugs from me, how scary for you. No specific advice but at least they have found out the issue now, even if it means a crap few weeks for you.
How about writing yourself a list to stop you worrying all night- hospital bag packing, any last things you need to buy for baby or you, anything that needs doing in house (nursery ready?). Then allocate someone else who can do them for you!
Have you someone who can look after your son? As long as he's sorted, that is your main concern
Don't be afraid to ask for help for anything you need so you can rest and prepare for baby in hospital.
And put a positive spin on it, whilst you wait for baby, is there anything at all in hospital you can do - write a book, learn a language, craft hobby? Sorry if that sounds flippant when you are so worried about things but it's all I can think to suggest!
Good luck, sure a poster with advice on your condition will be along soon x x

Oh bless you, it's horrible being upset when you're pregnant.

My dsis had GD with her first and she was so upset, the Dr's said the baby would have a big tummy but she was fine. No big tummy to be seen and she was an absolute cherub - she's a horror now though!!

Have you got a RL hand to hold? X

I didn't have GD but did DD2 was transverse at 36 weeks, midwife said it was prob due to her being DC3 and that the womb was stretchier, she turned herself around overnight and then stayed head down.

They can turn amazingly easily at that stage - hopefully midwives and doctors will be able to reassure you more specifically when you see them

Thank you both. Baby's tummy is measuring above average but is following the line from previous scans.

I'm lucky in that DH is very supportive, but he has to work. DM will help too.

I just keep thinking what if there is something wrong with the baby or what if I lose it? I don't think I would cope.

It took us 18 months to conceive this baby. I just am so worried Sad

My dd and ds3 were transverse, both went head down at 38 weeks, I had elcs's with both at 38+2 and 38+3 due to other circumstances and they weighed 10.9 and 11.6 pounds (no GD either). Don't worry and rest up, you are in the best place if you or the baby need it.

Thanks. I feel a bit better now. I've had a phone call from the midwife to say that there was raised glucose in my blood, so I suppose a diagnosis of GD is looking more likely.

I wonder whether that, combined with the transverse will make them want to deliver earlier. In which case, I wonder whether they will admit me earlier.

Thanks for your support everyone. Just a quick update to say that I just got a call confirming that I have GD.

I'm crying my eyes out at the moment, but I hope I'll feel better once I get it out of my system!

I don't really know much about it tbh. Just waiting for the diabetes nurse to call me.

I've heard some cases where they admit you at term if baby is transverse because if you go into labour, there is a chance of cord prolapse which would need urgent action; so its about keeping you close to facilities to keep both you and baby safe.

With DD2 I went into labour the night before my elective cs (she was breech but had been moving to and fro from a transverse position). They gave me a vaginal examination to check for cord prolapse but.luckily only touched a foot when up there.

I dont have experience of GD but of the people I know who had it, it had no impact on their babies.
