2 thin lines on clearblue.. after 'af'..??

any thoughts girls? even dh says he can see these lines, which are blue.. just v thin. done in the afternoon .. had af for 3 days, but the pre - af sicky feeling has lingered..

went into tesco's earlier - and got the clearblue while they're on offer.. had a quick peak at MN earlier and just felt like testing this afternoon, not sure why exactly

i've googled and seen that the clearblue +/- type aren't the most reliable necessarily, so will prob do a digital 2morrow

Question: Do you think i'm wasting my money? the lines came up pretty instantly, albeit v thin, though dark (about 1/10th width of the horizontal line). i have dissected the tests.. so now just have strips.

wish i'd never bothered; can't sleep on sunday nights at best of times

If the lines came up staight away then they are unlikely to be evapouration lines.

My thoughts would be that:

  1. You are pregnant! Your period could have been a hormonal bleed.

or

  1. You did conceive but implantation has not taken place.

If I were you I would either give the Drs a urine sample to test, or test again at home in a week.

HTH, hope you get the result you want

belgo · 03/12/2006 19:30

Why did you do the test in the first place?

sparklybits · 03/12/2006 20:07

same reason i've done a million other tests at relevant and irrelevant times.

tks for thoughts western

You don't actually get HCG (the hormone tested for with pregnancy tests) unless impantation has occurred, before then your body is unaware that a sperm has met an egg.

False positives don't really happen, you cannot unknowingly have HCG in your system unless you are pregnant- so congratulations!

gingernut · 03/12/2006 20:26

I would say you're probably pregnant. Wait a day or 2 and do another test (maybe try out the digital one). Congratulations .

My first pg was a bit like this - had what I thought was AF but after about 4 days I thought it just didn't seem `right' - bleeding not heavy enough, and boobs getting more not less sore. So did a test and got a positive.

sparklybits · 03/12/2006 20:28

yeah they're just weird thin lines - had one before months back on a first response, though only one.. came to nothing

just wondered if anyone knew much about these pos/neg clearblues. i've read that the first responses and other pink tests are less prone to evap lines than the blue

as i say these lines came up quickly but its just the thinness of them. i can't help but think that i got them too wet, or didnt lay them flat enough or something. absolutely no shadow on either

fun and games of hpt's eh

sounds to me like you are pregnant congratulations

with my second child, i had a normal period lasting 5 days, i discovered i was pregnant at 7 weeks when my sister sat down to a cooked breakfast and I felt really sick at the sight of the fried egg lol.

good luck and keep us posted

merrylissiemas · 03/12/2006 21:03

i bled on and off from 6-15 weeks with ds. it could have been an implantation bleed. it wouldn't have come up bfp if you weren't pg. congrats sweet.

CountTo10LordsaLeaping · 03/12/2006 21:06

I used one of those plus minus tests and I had exactly the same thing, I just think its part of the design. I really wan't sure until dp looked at it and even made someone else look at it. I was only about 4/5 weeks at the time so maybe that's something to do with it. The further on you are the more distinct the lines as the HCG levels are higher. So if you are unsure go to your doctor/chemist for a sample test otherwise congrats

WestCountryLass · 03/12/2006 22:08

dizietsma, I do know that about implantation btw, I should have inserted the word "properly".

Nemoinapeartree · 03/12/2006 22:11

ssparklybits..I had what seemed to be Af with Ds and neg tests pre AF. Then had to go to gp for something who sent me for a scan and turned out I was 9wks pg with DS. I would retest with first pee in morning.

LadyOfThePoinsettias · 03/12/2006 22:15

i'd say........

CONGRATULATIONS!!! Xx

deffo pos imo. ds1 was 'thin' - lol

LadyOfThePoinsettias · 03/12/2006 22:16

also meant to say i then tested with a digital one too!

theposterformerlyknownasMammyM · 03/12/2006 22:29

As far as I'm aware, there's no such thing as a 'false positive' so it sounds as if congratulations are in order!

SlightlyMadSanta · 03/12/2006 22:58

I beleive that hCG, the hormone which is detected by the test doubles every day for the first part of pregnancy. I would test again in a few days (3-4) and you should see a stronger line. I wouldn't say you have to go for a 'better' test.

Agree with what others say though - false positive is unlikely.

sparklybits · 04/12/2006 08:07

bfn with a clearblue on first of the morning wee

the lines were both just too thin, i knew it

redbullandbump · 04/12/2006 08:17

have you tried the clear blue digital?? when i used it in september i had the word pregnant comeup after about 30 seconds and i got 2 in my pack for £10.99 at morrisons, i was so shocked at being pregnant, how fast the result appeared and i knew i had done it right. good luck

sparklybits · 04/12/2006 08:20

hi redbull - tks - i haven't. i must admit i went on to auto pilot in tesco at 7.30 today as had waited since waking at 6 to use it.. i should have just gone digital. will think about risking dh's wrath (was v surprised when he agreed it looked fairy good y/day) - i dont think he'll be too impressed if i follow up 2 2 packs of clearblue in 2 days with a digital.

i do agree its only way to know for sure but my sensible head knows thin lines are prob dodgy and a bfn with first morning wee the next day is prob the real result. bugger.

LadyOfThePoinsettias · 04/12/2006 08:23

maybe wait a few days then go to the docs and have a freebie done?

bubblebell1 · 04/12/2006 08:25

sparkly, if it is any consolation try again with a different test. i had 3 negative tests with this pregnancy. clear blue ones just didnt pick anything up i used first response and it worked.

sparklybits · 04/12/2006 08:29

i'm really touched by there being any interest and response to my 'same old' thread - i know this sort of thing comes up a lot.... just feel a bit defeated now - the lines were thin y/day

'fessing up now... do you think that by not keeping the tests flat, and maybe erm wafting them a bit, that i could have caused an 'early' evaporation line on both - and that is what the thin lines were?

i have such a love / hate r/ship with hpt's bloody things

redbullandbump · 04/12/2006 08:29

copied and pasted from the clear blue site

  1. Do I have to use an early morning urine sample?

If you are testing before you expect your period to start we recommend you test with your first urine of the day. Otherwise you can test at any time of day. Avoid excessive fluid intake before testing.

when i tested with ds 5 years ago i used about 10 pregnancy testa as i wasnt to sure as the lines and dots wernt very clear, but that was because i was only about 2 or 3 weeks pregnant,

if i was you id get a digital one with out dp knowing its the only way to put your mind at rest

Nemoinapeartree · 04/12/2006 09:33

agree would wait a couple of days and please dont be disheartened as I said I was 9wks with DS and getting negative tests he is now a bouncy 3yr old. DD I knew quite early as we were trying but some days had neg results[was obsessed due ot mcs] and with this baby I didnt get a positive until 6wks.

colditz · 04/12/2006 09:35

A warning - ds2 didn't show up on the digital ones! try again in 3 days time - forever, I know!

theposterformerlyknownasMammyM · 04/12/2006 10:37

I've never heard of getting different results with different tests, I've used different brands with each of mine. I'm looking for a bit of advice I suppose (sorry, just a little hijack!) I'm off out to buy a test in the hope of testing early (dh due to have the 'op' on the same day that AF is due and I have my suspicions ) so really need an early reading, also, money is tight, so I want a good, cheap, reliable test....so which is best?
