Feeling really guilty about taking medication

I've got hyperemesis, so I take anti sickness medication daily. I'm asthmatic so sometimes use inhalers. On top of that I've been getting really bad migraines quite regularly. I try not to take pain killers, but sometimes it gets too much and I just need to take some and go to bed.
My midwife said they wouldn't have prescribed me anything that can harm my baby, but I'm still feeling really guilty. I mean, my sickness medicine info leaflet even says be cautious taking it during pregnancy.
I just feel really really guilty. I've got my dating scan soon, and can't wait to know that it's heart is still beating (have had early scans and all was fine)

Some women have serious conditions and take much stronger medication during pregnancy and their babies were fine, but I still worry.
Anybody else having to take things and feeling guilty? Anybody who took things, felt bad, but had a healthy baby?

I took 2 different anti sickness meds everyday 3 times daily until 22 weeks also on inhalers and paracetamol. I'm actually in hospital atm and was given steroids , piritin, tried to give sleeping tablet although I didn't take it in the end and also take omeprszole 40 mg everyday aswell. Your wee baby will be fine. I don't feel guilty as I need them and if I'm getting dehydrated sick or sore I can't be healthy and at my best to help my baby so for baby to be healthy I need to be able to cope daily x

I tried loads of different anti-emetics when I had HG (none bloody worked) and shed loads of Coca-cola Blush but DD was just fine. A bright articulate little girl who was an easy going baby compared to her brother (who I didn't take any medication at all with)

Those meds are regularly prescribed to pregnant women with no ill effects. But guilt goes hand in hand with motherhood may as well get used to it Smile

I so understand.
I took anti-sickness mess everyday for my whole pregnancy, every Saturday I would try without and no joy.
Your baby will be fine, and it really important that you are able to stay hydrated and eat some things!
Good luck

I have come off my arthritis medication for this exact reason. I don't want to be taking something even through I have been told it's fine. I have to take cocodamol at times when the pain is unbearable and I feel bad. The way I look at it when I need to take the pain killers is that if I am not looking after myself by taking the pain killers when I need them then my body can't properly look after my growing bubs

Thanks ladies. I know you're all right, for baby to be fine, mum needs to be fine. Especially with staying hydrated and keeping food down. I just can't get all those poor thalidomide babies from the 60s/70s out of my head. I saw something on TV about a court ruling while they were adults when I was a little kid and it's stayed with me since. Thankfully we've come a long way since then and it's much less likely these things will happen today...heck, in those days it was normal to smoke during pregnancy and fine for kids to sit in open boots in the back of a car lol.

And yes, Princesspond, I always hear about mothers feeling guilty for things all the time. Not looking forward to that one haha.

Mummyneedinganswers, I wish you a speedy recovery. Hopefully you won't have to stay in hospital for too long. I know it isn't nice at anytime, let alone when you're uncomfortable and pregnant. Get well soon x

Hi macdat! I just wanted to add I have also had super bad sickness. I'm 19 weeks today - I started taking a homepathic remedy for it a few weeks ago and I have gone from being sick every single day with out fail to once or twice a week. It could be that the sickness was just letting up on its own, but I do notice when I haven't taken it my nausea is a lot worse. I understand not everyone believes or wants to try out these things - it was actually my midwife that suggested it to me at my 16 week check up! Just if you wanted to try something a little less invasive :) xx

Hi worried12, I'm really interested in homeopathic remedies! I didn't even know there were any. What are you taking? I'd love to try it out. Thanks for getting back to me on that Smile
