Side sleeping cot

We bought the chicco next to me crib but when trying to put it up today it seems to be that our bed is too tall at 45 cms when the maximum height you can have is 38cm for the bed frame so it looks like we can't actually use it as a side sleeper. This is making we wonder if we should return it and get a different crib - has anyone else had this problem and was there a good solution? We were thinking about keeping it and not doing side sleeping but having it so he can use it up to six months in our room. Do you think we'd regret this and if there's a better option?

We're expecting a tall baby potentially if that makes a difference

Definitely take it back. Look up bed nest or snuzpod and see they are taller.

I have a crib by the side of my bed which I use with a sleepyhead in it. Sleepyhead is good because its portable and can be out anywhere In the house. Our crib was a glider crib and has been brilliant, DD is now nearly 19 weeks. Picked up our crib half price in the sale for 35 pounds. Sleepyhead wasn't cheap though, but is the best thing we have bought.

I have a bednest and its up to 66cm. dd was in it till 6 months and was around the 50th percentile for height but it also goes on whether they can sit up etc.
The fact that it attaches to the bed was a lifesaver for me, i'd be glaring at it at 3am if I had to actually get up knowing it could have attached. I used a Moses basket for one night and hated it.

We have quite a high bed and rented a bednest. I thought it was great. And the rental means one less piece of baby crap to clutter up the loft!

I have a next 2 me and I am planning to have it slightly lower than the bed- I thought that way there is less chance of the duvet making its way over to the baby. Is this a bad idea?

Lemonfizzypop · 10/10/2015 22:21

It's meant to be lower than your bed, but not too much lower, I can't remember what the max gap is..

Junosmum · 11/10/2015 00:27

Can't be much lower as there's a risk of baby suffocating between their mattress and you bed or getting stuck etc. Each one has slightly different guidance but always follow it as used incorrectly (as with most things) they can be very dangerous.

My beds like 57cm and the snuzpod fits that. I was going to get the chicco as it was cheaper but realised when I saw it in the shop it wouldn't be high enough. Am glad I went with the snuzpod as its lovely. It also has a bunch of other little features that I like. I'd return it, if you can after putting it together.

I had an Arms Reach with extender legs on it. I'm planning on picking another one up from eBay soon and if I can't get the legs we'll just use blocks of wood instead.

We use an Ikea cot set up as a co sleeper

This blog post shows how! We love it!

I had a Chicco next2me but baby just refused to sleep in it! I ended up using just a Moses basket in a rocking frame and it's worked out brilliantly- it's not too hard to lift her in after a night feed and being able yo rock her yo sleep been a godsend. When I had the Chicco, I did also find it awkward to get in and out of bed myself: you have to sort of shimmy down the bed and it's not too easy with stitches.
