When did you notice reduced movement pre-labour?

Just wanted to ask at what point did you think "hold on movement has changed".What felt different to you? Did you call MW or go to the hospital? Did there turn out to be something wrong or does baby just calm down before coming?

I would call midwife for advice if you have reduced movement. I was reading Count the Kicks yesterday and it said it is a myth they move less towards the end. I'm only 26 weeks but been told to monitir because extra heartbeat hence reading up on it.

With first DD I was induced so no idea generally.

Hope all is ok.

Signoritawhocansway · 09/10/2015 07:34

Please get it checked out. You should do as your notes advise at home (long cold drink, lying down for a whole) and if nothing changes, phone the midwife.

My stock answer if in doubt, get checked out. I was 27 weeks when I noticed reduced movements, and it turned out that my baby had a very life threatening condition and so was delivered by emcs the same day. We were unusual, but ALWAYS get checked.

Hope everything is well with you and baby. Try not to worry.x.

TheOriginalWinkly · 09/10/2015 07:36

^^ what they said. My movements didn't decrease, it's a myth, your baby is probably just having a lazy day but please get checked out just in case

MNerAnon · 09/10/2015 07:54

My firstborn decreased movement and I got checked out, and am really glad I did because they induced me (broke waters) which revealed meconium. They said baby is distressed and it was all "action stations": me attached to iv and monitor and ended up in emergency forceps delivery 12 hrs later.

Had I waited it could have been too late. So please call and get checked out ASAP.

AuntieStella · 09/10/2015 07:55

That never happened to me (or should that be 'us'?)

If you have reduced movement, go and be checked out.

Yes, the feeling of the the movements might be a little bit different (tighter fit) but it should be just as frequent and vigorous as all along.

It's nearly always the baby having an inexplicable quiet time, but MWs would rather check 100 babies who are fine than miss the one that might need intervention.

SweetTeaVodka · 09/10/2015 08:19

I have always been told it is a myth the movements slow or change at the end of pregnancy, and that if any reduction or change you should contact the midwife/labour ward.

I had concerns a few times in my last pregnancy and went up for monitoring only for the little beast to start moving once the CTG was on, but every time they were lovely and told me I did the right thing contacting them and to do so again if concerned.

I have seen too many times on MN and another parenting page I frequent people sharing their experiences of waiting and it being too late - it's not worth the risk IME.

As Rollermum says the Count the Kicks website is a good resource, and the midwives are there for any concerns so do call.

Hope all is well.

cth1982 · 09/10/2015 16:31

as everybody has said above the Count the Kicks website is fab and you shouldn't have any reduction in movement - if you do give your Midwife of the hospital a call and and do the laying on your side test. I believe they say you should feel the baby move at least 10 times within that period.

FizzlePops · 09/10/2015 17:33

You should get checked.DD went very quiet the day labour started for me, I rang the MAU and went to be checked.
Everything was fine but my waters went in the car park and had meconium in so straight back in!

Mumberjack · 09/10/2015 18:59

Go get checked. Please. The reduced movements thing is a dangerous myth.

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 09/10/2015 19:16

I've been in a somewhat 'start and stop' pre-labour since this morning. Baby is sure making it known, big 'squiggle' before each contraction. There have been 'quiet' periods, but that is usual for me. Any significant 'difference' needs to be checked, especially reduced movement, no questions.

slithytove · 09/10/2015 19:18

With dd, I noticed reduced movement 3 days before she died.

With the other 2 who lived, I never had reduced movements, the movements just felt more cramped.

AuntieStella · 09/10/2015 19:59

Flowers slithytove (love your username, btw)

And MrsA2015 how are you getting on? Have you been in for a check?

Goingtobeawesome · 09/10/2015 20:01

Movements don't get less towards the end.

If the baby suddenly moves more, or less, get checked out.

I went a lot with number two. One midwife was a real bitch but I told her I wasn't prepared to risk my baby just because she felt everything was fine. Baby 1 had nearly died and he only had one episode of not moving on demand.

Goingtobeawesome · 09/10/2015 20:03

I'm sorry for your loss slithytove Flowers.

StylishDuck · 09/10/2015 20:12

Absolutely phone the midwife. You should never ignore a change in movement. I phoned when I felt baby hadn't moved much at 39+5. Ended up being induced and DD was born on her due date. She was perfectly healthy but ignoring it wasn't worth the risk in my opinion.

RockerMummy184 · 09/10/2015 20:40

I was induced with my twins last week and I felt them move for the whole time I was in active labour, twin 2 even seemed to be pushing out against contractions. I can therefore confirm that anyone who says reduced movement before labour is normal is talking rubbish!

Please get checked if you think there's anything out of the ordinary with your baby's movement.

mummyneedinganswers · 09/10/2015 20:46

I have a thread going about being 32 weeks and possibly being induced in next week or so due to reduced movements since Sunday and currently still in hospital. I received steroids to strengthen my baby's lungs please don't risk it and get checked out

Tallyloolah · 09/10/2015 20:58

Echoing previous posters when I rang the labour ward with my 2nd child they asked firstly had my waters gone, and is he moving, I mentioned he was a bit quiet at that moment, they told me to come in straight away for monitoring, I was monitored all the way through labour as his heartrate kept dipping during contractions. All was fine he is now a healthy bouncy 2 year old. But yes better to be safe. Hope all is okay. :)

Scattymum101 · 09/10/2015 22:28

Hope you've managed to get checked out.

With dd1 I went in for monitoring the day before I went into labour as she hadn't moved much. Everything was fine during the monitoring and she was born three days later perfectly healthy. However I'm so glad I got checked out just in case

Never had reduced movement with dd2 before labour.

MrsA2015 · 09/10/2015 23:10
