Panicking !!! 32 weeks been admitted being given steroid as baby might have to come now

I'm 32 week with beautiful wee girl and she's measuring 33 weeks. I have gestational diabetes and since Sunday have had reduced movements. Like only feeling her 6 times in 24 hours and the registrar couldn't get her to move on the ultrasound so they admitted me last night. All her ctgs have been fine but she just isn't moving as much as they like and as much as usual and now that this is going on 4 days they have tarted steroid injections as they feel she may be better off out where they can help her.

I'm scared I'm only 32 weeks and really really panicking now that something will go horribly wrong

Has anyone have birth at 32-33 weeks and can shed some light of what I should expect if it does happen

I went into labour at 30 weeks, managed to stop it with two steroid injections.

However ds was keen to arrive and I had him at 33 weeks.

Tiny but perfect.

3 weeks spent in neo natal, mainly to establish breast feeding and his weight to go up.

I wish I was told that it would be a good few hours until I could see him for the first time (8 hours) and I wish I was prepared for all the tubes etc.

Ds just had his first b day this week, so far he has suffered no ill effects from his early arrival.

Good luck op Flowers

Have a look in the forums under 'being a parent' there is a board in there specifically for premature births. Loads of positive stories and really good advice on what to expect. I hope everything goes well for you and your dd Flowers

Hi - I had my twins at 31+3, they were obviously small, 3lb1 and 3lb3, one was on Cpap for 24 hours but they had no other problems. They stayed in hospital until they would have been 37 weeks. The started school a couple of weeks ago:)

Hope it all goes ok and your baby stays in as long as possible, it's good if they can get the steroids in as it helps the lungs mature.

Stillwishihadabs · 07/10/2015 21:30

Good luck OP. I am a hcp and have cared for 100's of babies born early. At 32/33 weeks she is likely to be fine. Serious breathing problems are rare, they mainly need help learning to feed and keeping warm.Flowers

Jasmine12 · 07/10/2015 21:42

I had DS at 33 weeks. He was tiny and had heavy breathing when he was born. So, he was in the NICU for observation but things settled down by next day and we both went home on day 3 together.

He has no other probs (touch wood!!) - very bright boy. Summer born but still in top sets at school :)

Impatientwino · 07/10/2015 21:43

My niece was born at 33 weeks and was totally fine. No issues with breathing etc, she had a tube for the first few days to feed but after that all was great. She is now the stroppiest 5 year old you have ever seen!

Sorry this is happening to you, you must be so frightened, you're in the best place and I hope all goes well

mummyneedinganswers · 07/10/2015 22:16

Thanks everyone just really scared at the minute I keep calling down and then getting a sudden rush of fear again. I know she will more than likely be okay

mummy I am so sorry you're having a stressful time.
Your little girl will be fine. My cousin had a little girl at 27 weeks although she was measuring a lot smaller and weighed just 1lb 2oz. She is a perfectly healthy 2 year old now.

I also know of a woman who just last week gave birth to a baby girl at 36 weeks as her baby had not been moving at all. Ctg was fine just no movement at all from baby from baby for the last few weeks in the womb but now she is out she is perfectly fine and there are now no health concerns.

Good luck Flowers please keep us posted!

RJnomaaaaaargh · 07/10/2015 23:13

My 32 seeker was 11 last month.

If you've had the steroids it makes a huge difference. You're safe and in good hands. I remember how scary it is but while no one can ever say it will all be fine at 32 weeks it really SHOULD all be fine. Try if you can to get some rest in while you have a chance.

mummyneedinganswers · 08/10/2015 00:22

Thanks everyone you are all reassuring me.

It's funny really cz everytime I hear of a baby being born early I always say 'drs can do so much now for Prem babies' but now it's me I'm panicking and actually realise how stupid it is to say that when your not the one going through it.

frills I had a big scan today and she looks fine her heart has the four chambers and she was practice breathing with amniotic fluid which the demographer said is a very good sign. But she only seem to move when coaxed or annoyed like ctg machines or ultra sounds. They estimated her weight at 4lb14 which is good although one part of me keeps reminding myself how utterly inaccurate they are. I'm just hoping I can hold out for another few weeks Atleast.

I really do appreciate everyone reassuring me. I have people ringing and texting constantly wanting updates and wanting to visit and to be honest I ended up turning my phone off and telling dp to let people know I only want family visiting as I don't want to be bombarded with people when I'm trying not to stress.

Thanks for the hand holding wil definitely keep you all updated xx

I have had 9hours sleep In4 days and cannot cope any longer woman in her snoring like a man and I'm sorry to seem insensitive but I bloody need sleep and strength to keep my baby going over next few weeks and she is keeping me awake. She is that loud the midwife has actually apologised to me for how loud she is. I need sleep and energy. Steroids have sent blood sugars up so now been out on insulin which I expected but not so quick. I am literally on the verge of tears from exhaustion and and anxiety. My little girl needs me to be strong how can I be strong for her if I'm not sleeping I haven't slept from Tuesday xxx

And even at that I only got 1- 1 1/2 hours sleep then

Hospital admissions are a total pita. If you have visitors today ask them to bring you ear plugs and a sleep mask: they'll make the nights so much easier.

bluewisteria · 08/10/2015 05:59

Yes definitely ear plugs! Or ask for you/her to go into a side room?

I haven't had one myself but I am a prem baby. Born at 30 weeks back in 1979, nothing wrong with me at all. I weighed just 1.5lbs which seems bits given how quickly I can loose/gain that as an adult!

Wishing you all the very best. Your little one is a good weight and gestation now and your hospital seem very good bar the sleep issue!!

I would really put my foot down about it. I don't know if this is a financial option but some hospitals let you pay for private side room for about £100 a night. Even just one night now and again might help? You shouldn't have to pay though, I would bring that up as last resort option.

Good morning Smile

Hope you finally managed some of that precious sleep.

After I was given the steroids I had a three day hospital stay and then went home with twice weekly hospital monitoring.

Obviously only went a few times as ds come a week or so after but it was nice to get home, bath and rest in my own surroundings.

Here if you need to chat

Frillsandspillsx2 · 08/10/2015 08:21

Hope you managed to get some sleep and are doing well!

I would definitely be requesting a sideroom or for snoring woman. There's nothing worse when you're exhausted and sleep deprived, I think everything seems a lot worse as it really takes its toll on your emotions.

I'm glad your scan went well that sounds very promising! Fingers crossed she stays in there we want her cooking for a little bit longer!

Thinking of you Flowers

amyboo · 08/10/2015 08:41

DS3 was born quite unexpectedly at 30 week by emcs. They tried to stop my labour but the medication didn't work. He spent 6 weeks in the NICU and was on CPAP for a couple of weeks, but is now a healthy and happy 2.5 year old. Apart from his breathing at the start, the only other problem he had was severe jaundice (although I understand this was made worse by the fact that I am rhesus negative and he is positive), and he had to be on iron supplements for about the first 18 months, which he hated. He also ended up having pretty bad reflux (another common problem for premature babies), but was fine once I weaned him - early, as advised by my paediatrician.

mummyneedinganswers · 08/10/2015 09:42

I got an hours sleep midwives tried everything make me more relaxed and comfortable burning was sick with worry and them people snoring etc.

There is only two side rooms on this ward and they are both in use.

Consultant in this morning and has said I'm definitely in Atleast 4 days and I have to do a fetal movement chart between 10am and 10pm and then they are going to access what needs to be done for baby x

Junosmum · 08/10/2015 13:06

I'm so please you got a side room! I was really feeling your pain on the snoring (as well as the rest, obviously!). Hopefully you can get some sleep now.

Barbie1 · 08/10/2015 13:06

Great news. Hope you have some nice food to eat -and not the ghastly hospital slop and someone to keep you company?

Rest as much as you can Smile

Bin85 · 08/10/2015 13:12

Firstly my 32 weeker is in his late 20s, 6 ft 4 inches with a good degree and professional job!
Secondly reading "Count the Kicks" website would be a good idea if you haven't already . I don't think you should mess about if there are reduced movements
Wishing you all the very best

Bin85 · 08/10/2015 13:16

The hospital may let you look at the Special Care Unit which is a good idea as it prepares you
