I'm only 9 weeks preggers with my second but I am beyond exhausted. I work full time hours into four days, plus evenings teaching dance and fitness, plus Sundays. Everything hurts, I'm constantly nauseous, I've come down with a head cold on my one day off and my shingles is coming out again. Generally feeling sorry for myself Sad

Dear god, I hope that energy surge comes soon in the second trimester! I don't know how I'm going to do this!

It does get much better! Thanks

I had shingles early on too, which should at least give you 5 days in bed just to sleep. I don't think the antivirals are safe to take though? Someone might prove me wrong there though.

Hope you feel better soon x

I was exhausted through out my second pregnancy and being 5 years older and closer to 40, wondered if l had done the right thing getting pregnant again.

Good news for me is l have a 2.5 week old now and have waaay more energy this time than l did with dd1 where l had the best pregnancy.

But you are doing a lot! Can you scale back a bit?

Thanks ladies - sorry, such a 'poor me' post!

I won't be having time off for the shingles because I only get it down the side of my face. It stings a little but I can't justify time off work unfortunately.

Offmy, I've already condensed my hours to get a day off to try and give me another day to rest but I don't have anyone to teach for me for my evening classes. I certainly don't want my school to fold while I'm pregnant. I just need to man up, but it's hard work. Looking forward to being able to eat more, I might have more energy then!

that's ok, i had a 'poor me' post the other day.
it does get easier, second trimester is great. then it does then get harder, but you will get through it and reach the end.
you do sound like you are doing an awful lot but i understand its hard to cut back. but getting poorly on top, just make sure you are taking time off to recover and are looking after yourself.

Not just me then! I don't remember being this tired with my first, but I was five years younger with no children, less work to do and a smaller house. My house is like a bomb site at the mo, but I really don't care. As long as no one contracts e.coli, I'm content.

I'm 9 weeks too and I'm really struggling. I wasn't like this when I had DS (7), I was tired then but now I'm struggling to keep my eyes open. I've literally just had a 10min nap as I didn't feel safe to drive.
I'm also incredibly stressed by symptoms, lack of symptoms and every single twinge as I had a miscarraige at 17 wks last December. I think this is also wearing me out as its emotionally very draining.
MW keeps on telling me being tired is positive as its a side effect of the hormones, doesn't seem to make it any easier though.
I think I'm going to have to turn down a potential new client as I'm too exhausted to do any more than my current workload.

When I contracted shingles I got told I'd run my body into the ground and it was trying to tell me to rest.

Perhaps you need to slow down and take care of yourself?

I didn't listen to my body enough, in the end I wrecked my immune system and ended up with chronic ill health for at least 18 months. My hair started to fall out and I was pushed out of my job. Some days I felt like I could die. I have only just come out the other side but I will never be the same again.

My advice would be to take some rest, I got given a sick note with shingles. I wanted to work but my employer said I couldn't as it would affect their insurance. Shingles can have long term side effects too (nerve damage).

I think you might find this batch of shingles harder than usual. I could not get off the sofa/bed. So whilst it might only be a little rash, it is your bodies way of saying that you're giving it too much too do. See how you go.

And nobody minds about a messy house! You've got a decent excuse!

I felt the same at 9 weeks, better at 10 and back to myself at 11 weeks. Hopefully, you will feel better soon. Ginger beer helped and get to bed as early as you can, leave housework that can wait.
