So because I have no idea how to search on this new app I can't find the posts.

I'm only 12 weeks but I have my scan tomorrow and I'm trying to stay positive by planning for the future.

I'd like to know thoughts and reviews on car seats and carriers and isofix bases for new borns? Are there better makes than others? Is there much point in the isofix bases?

I'm thinking of going for patterned or red coloured as I don't want to be dull and dark but don't want blue or pink either.
Any help appreciated. Thanks :-)

Imo isofix bases are really useful. Assuming you're going to leave the carseat set up in the car and not swap it between cars, the isofix base makes it soo much easier to put the seat in and out. You just click it in and that's it. Much easier than trying to do the seatbelt around the seat!

In terms of brands, I would be suspicious of anything too cheap tbh, but there's very little between the main names. I found this website helpful:

www.securatot.co.uk

Colour wise, I just went with black!

Thanks for the advice Smile. I'm also suspicious of brands that are too cheap but I sometimes feel others are just so expensive which is why I'm going to try get as many reviews to meet in the middle. Ha! It's so hard knowing what I'll need ect. So much to think about. X

If you've got a Which subscription or know someone who does, you could look at their reviews, best buys and don't buys.

We had a travel system where the car seat clicked onto our pram base, which I really liked. Although you should bear in mind that babies shouldn't be in the car seat for too long a stretch (I think 2hrs??), it is useful for a short journey and then a short ish excursion.

Isofix safer because it's harder to not be secured correctly
Isofix easier because it saves faffing with the seatbelt every time
Maxicosi, britax and I think cybex compatible with most buggies through use of adapters
Bear in mind law changing and your baby will need to tear face to 15 months
Maxi cosi I think most common fwiw

I will be getting the isofix I-size base with the maxi cosi Pebble and then the 2 way Perl. They seem to have the best reviews but is very expensive ( I think it's £550 for all 3)

NewBallsPlease00 · 06/10/2015 21:04

Fwiw I used the pebble and pearl with dc1
Dc2 due now and have re bought pebble seat as was happy with how solid both it and pearl were
Friends didn't have the isofix and their fitting and seats seemed very flimsy in comparison
They are deco expensive but I'd rather save money on second hand buggy and other things than car safety

I was originally looking at Cosatto stuff because it looked pretty but then started researching car seats and was shocked at how bad they can be for a baby's breathing and development if they are in them too long. It is 30 minutes for a newborn and up to 2 hours once they are older.

Info here

For that reason, I'm almost certainly getting the Kiddy Evo Lunafix as it is the only one that can lie flat in the car (without taking up two seats) to avoid these problems. The seat is £319 including the isofix base, so more or less exactly the same as e.g. a Maxi Cosi Pebble + isofix. It also comes in lots of different colours, and is compatible with various prams as a travel system (which would be safe to use the seat on in lie-flat position for whatever time you need)

trilbydoll · 06/10/2015 21:17

I wouldn't necessarily worry about a lie flat car seat unless you're going to do a lot of long journeys, ie grandparents a couple of hours away. When baby is tiny you're unlikely to be going on big expeditions. Just worth remembering to pop them in the carrycot / pushchair unless you're going to be literally 5 minutes.

OP, we have the Jané strata car seat. It is super safe and good for breathing according to the instructions. It is also ridiculously difficult to use because you can't adjust the straps while its in the isofix base. So I suggest you include that as a criteria when you're shopping Smile

Motherandbaby.com have a fantastic review section on car seats. Really helped us make the selection. We had decided on a mothercare ziba or a cosatto until I read their reviews. Now I'm going with a maxi cosi and easybase 2 as our cars don't have isofix.

TitusAndromedon · 06/10/2015 23:01

We've gone with the Maxicosi I-size base and Pebble, and will eventually move to the Pearl. Our second choice was the Cybex. I can't remember the model, but it lasts from birth to four years old, or something like that. The only downside is that the seat and base are one unit, so it can't be used on a travel system. We decided that, due to having twins, we wanted that flexibility of the Maxicosi, but I did really like the look of the Cybex and I've heard great reviews.

Forgot to put in my last post, buy the looks of the Maxi cosi pebble it can also go in cars that don't have isofix (so say if the grandparents will take them on rare occasions but don't have isofix)
