I'm doing a 6 week placement while I'm 28-34 weeks pregnant.

I need workwear for this 6 weeks so as cheaply as possible because I will only ever wear it for this 6 week period.

Where does good cheap maternity workwear ? How many items of each would you think to do me 5 day weeks for 6 weeks ?

Could you get a bundle off eBay? Might be good value and you can always resell on afterwards if they are still in good condition.

dinkystinky · 05/10/2015 11:23

ebay is your friend - Seraphine and Isabella Oliver are office suitable labels with a good resale value - I'd get a black suit (jacket and trousers or skirt) you can wear with different tops/accessories and a couple of dresses (again dress up with different accessories)

Autumn2014 · 05/10/2015 11:25

P's I'd go with minimum 5 tops and 3 trousers or skirts. You don't want to washing a drying each night whilst you are busy with your course. I presume it's teaching? You could probably wear non maternity cardigans if you choose a waterfall style. Add some of favourite accessories like necklaces and scarves and you can mix and match to add variety.

Nursing Autumn. Would've been fine if it was uniform as they would provide me with a maternity uniform . Thanks I will have a look on eBay Smile

I actually have some waterfall cardigans I could wear it's more trousers and a couple tops I think I need. I checked eBay there and most of the bundles are jeans. Need to keep looking thanks everyone

Will it be on the wards or classroom based? Just thinking it might be hot if you are actually in hospital, so cardigans and scarves are probably not a good idea! Good luck with your search.

Autumn2014 · 05/10/2015 11:41

Try searching by brand, so jojomamabebe trousers size*. They do smart workwear in basic colours.

mintbiscuit · 05/10/2015 11:43

New Look and H&M do maternity clothes. Pretty cheap although bit hit and miss on quality. I used to mix with more expensive pieces for work (office based).

Gumtree for local pick up without postage and PayPal fees?
Jojo.have an outlet section on their website.

Does it need to be trousers? I did skater dresses for smart more or less up to my DD. Worn over maternity tights/leggings/leggings cut down into cycling short length (chunky thighs can't do bare legged and was hot). Then just a blazer/black jacket over the top or waterfall cardigan.

Pre pregnancy skater fit fine throughout pregnancy so did mind buying a couple more. Couldn't get on with maternity trousers - just bought matalan jeggings to wear under tunics

Office Autumn (CAMHS)

No doesn't necessarily need to be trousers I suppose. Just thought they'd be better for comfort .

As very much a separates girl before pregnancy, I was surprised how uncomfortable trousers were from fairly early on! Leggings helped with the bending over/modesty issues!

EdgarAllenPoe · 05/10/2015 13:02

I bought a couple of pairs of over the bump, black, maternity trousers from New Look. I think they were £13 or £14 each. They're cheap and cheerful but they do the job. Smart and comfy enough and I doubt they'll last very long but I only need them for a few months. I pair these with black or white maternity vests/long sleeve t-shirts and non-maternity smart cardigans that I had anyway. Most of them don't close anymore (I'm 27 weeks) but they keep me warm when paired with layered vests.

It's a bit boring, but I'm on a tight budget and it does the job.

I have a pair of maternity work trousers from george at asda. Cheap and do the job. I also have a cord skirt from amazon. Wrap dresses (plain) are also good as you can dress them up for work with a jacket / accessories.
Waterfall cardigans - non maternity light weight (and thicker) in New Look right now. Great to layer and for non work / longer use .

Sighing · 05/10/2015 13:09

My main expense have definitely been decent tailoredish blouses to look smart enough.

Runningupthathill82 · 05/10/2015 13:34

Asos sale section will be your friend. I've got three or four smart work dresses from there, all for under £10.
Perfect with black or nude maternity tights and flats (no way would I wear leggings with dresses for work - nowhere near smart enough in my office).
I also got a second hand Asos black pencil skirt, which looks great (and smart enough) with flats, tights, a comfy top and blazer.

thorshammer · 05/10/2015 20:01

Thank you so much for the advice. I've had a look at what I already have and I think all I need is what pairs maternity trousers maybe one or two jumper dresses and good maternity tights. I have plenty of tops I thought most of them were quite casual but in actual fact they are not too bad I have enough that will do I think .

I don't start the placement for another couple weeks so I will make a wee trip to new look at some point soon.

One more quick question - where does the best maternity tights ? Preferably ones that won't give my flabby belly a B-belly Grin
