4 miscarriages - it cannot be bad luck?

Hi all, had 4th m/c last week. Looking for some advice - has anyone been though this and got results as to why? We're finally being referred for blood tests to check clotting etc. Despite having 2 children, I cannot seem to get past the very early stages in 4 out of 6 pregnancies. It's deeply upsetting and I really feel like walking away from this at this point. I'm 37 soon. I feel I cannot go through this again. Here's my background: 1 DD, m/c at 7w (no progression past 6w4d), 2nd DD, mmc at 13w (no progression from 6w3d), mc at 5w, mc at 7w (no progression past 5w). 3 of my misses have happened this year alone.
If anyone has any advice/ experience I would love to hear from you. Xx

Yes I have!
I had 6 mc's all before 7 weeks then 1DD. DD2 seemed to appear no problems, then 3mc's all before 7 weeks and now 20 weeks pregnant with DC3.
We had all the tests after first few mc's and nothing was found at all. It was just one of those things genetically. Week 7 is around heart beat formation so they just wouldn't make it. We put it down to natures selection really.
With DD1 I started taking progesterone supplements as I have very bad pmt and thought it might be the cause of pregnancy not carrying on. First cycle on it I conceived DD1. But I haven't taken it since and had 2 more pregnancies.
Might be with checking hormone levels along with genetic tests.

It's really difficult going through this, my heart goes out to you. But there might not be anything wrong, just your body is great at choosing the best babies SmileFlowers

Hi there. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I too have had 4 m/cs. Had my dd 4 1/2 ago. Conceived no problem. I then had 4 miscarriages in a row, at 8 wks, 6 weeks, 12 weeks (saw the heartbeat at 7 1/2) and 7 weeks. Had all the tests done at St Mary's and nothing found wrong. It was the darkest time of my life and I didn't think I would ever recover but the news is that I got pregnant again and this time i didn't miscarry and I due in 2 weeks. Miscarriage is a dark and lonely place. I know the despair you are feeling but please don't lose hope. Don't give up. I remember the turning pint for me last December. I just said this can break me orakr me stronger and so we made the decision to try again and went ahead with IVF. The first 12 weeks were so hard waiting for another miscarriage but when each scan saw a little heartbeat my hope grew each time. I still worry something will go wrong but hope that I have had my share of bad luck. I really hope that you get through this and that things work out for you.

It is deeply upsetting, and what I'm about to say is not meant to minimise that at all.

But yes, it can be bad luck, or rather just the luck of the draw. Just like it's possible to flip ten 'heads' in a row flipping a coin. Random numbers are patchy - they are not evenly distributed.

That's not in any way meant to minimise how awful having four in a row (or even one) is, of course, but it does happen.

At 37, you're getting to the point where your egg quality is beginning to decline - of course that doesn't mean you can't have a child, but it does mean that a greater proportion of fertilised eggs will not pass quality control. Your body is effectively stopping those pregnancies at an early stage.

Definitely get the tests done, but there may not be anything specific 'wrong' with you.

A friend of mine had five miscarriages in a row (two at a very late stage) and now has three healthy strapping lads. I hope it works out for you! :)

Hi betty. I am really sorry to hear of your losses. I have had three early and one late miscarriages but in between all of that had a ds. Like you, I didn't believe it was 'bad luck' so since the second tri loss, in Feb, I've had lots of tests in lots of different places, including the NK cell investigations at Coventry which I would highly recommend. Turns out I don't have that but have tested positive for APS which was not picked up last year. This is more common than we are led to believe, very difficult to diagnose, but relatively easy to treat. There is a wealth of information on the recurrent miscarriage thread, where you can ask loads of question and get a huge amount of support. Hope you get some answers.

Thanks ladies. I will head to Dr for tests soon and see what the outcome is. I'm absolutely dreading ttc again. I hate that I now feel this way. I can't get my head around the fact that we had 2 healthy pregnancies and now all these miscarriages. I wonder how our 2 dds got through - and I thank god they did ????
