Could it be possible that baby already has a routine? Prior to birth?! I keep being told the same wake/sleep pattern could continue and by the looks of it mines a night owlSad. I'm being kept up all night by severe gymnastic movements, constabt hiccups, "fanny daggers" (i think), acid reflux and burping...not to mention cramp and achy joints. I know its all means to an end but getting slightly anxious I'll never sleep again Sad

Don't worry, that is quite normal. I am not a believer in routines before birth, routines are something that they need to learn. Most babies are up a lot at night at the beginning. This is when your hormones for milk producing are at their best! Don't stress about routines though, slowly, slowly... You will get to sleep again... eventually ;)

My first daughter was like this from 30 weeks till delivery...

Once she was born, she slept straight through from 12 weeks, for 12 hours a night, plus 2 naps a day. I kid you not. We had nooo idea how lucky we were!!!
DD2 sleeps but not quite like that...
Expecting number 3 in February so I imagine it will be a horror to counterbalance DD1!!

Haha, wow I don't think that is normal at all bluewisteria!!! Certainly lucky for you though.

Yeah im sure it's not. I absolutely take my hat off to parents who have a hard time with sleep. It's just so random, beyond the basic routine and calm environment stuff it is just pot luck, definitely nothing to feel smug about. Parents who get no sleep and still function are the ones who should be smug!!

My DS is nearly 5 and still has never slept through the night, (depsite having the same routine every night) I work 4 hours a week and have another on the way.....I manage, don't worry even if baby doesn't sleep you get used to it! but I sincerely hope your baby sleeps for you!

I thought they were 'meant ' to be back to front when they are born because they wriggle more when you are atill in bed. Then you get all he fun trying to convince them that day is for being awake and night for being still?
Obv that doesn't help at all.. I've got one who only moves for food. Every freakin time I eat anything she is off. Maybe sh/ the reminder that I should cut down a smidge??

Women tend to feel more movement at night because you're relaxed and still, and often moving about in the day can rock baby to sleep. Try not to worry about it. I know that the last few weeks of pregnancy are shit because you're so uncomfortable and achey but they won't last forever. As it happens when I had my first baby I had the best nights sleep in months once I got home with her! Even when you're up in the night with them, remember you won't be pregnant anymore and will find it much easier to move around and get comfy etc.

Baby's are asleep more in the womb when you are walking about etc as you 'rock' them to sleep with the movement. Then when youre nice and comfy at night they wake up more as you are still!

A lot of newborns are nocturnal at first. Eventually they learn the difference between day and night. Whatever routine they settle into, it changes every few weeks or so anyway, just as you are getting all relaxed about it...
