26w and have always had very fine hair. I was taking Boots Skin, Hair and Nails vitamins prior to pregnancy but cannot take them whilst pregnant.

I am obviously taking my pregnancy vitamins from the midwife, but I would like something to help strengthen and thicken my hair if possible?

Any recommendations?

The pregnancy multi vits should do the same job. Hormones help too.

My hair has reached epic proportions during pregnancy (mainly on my head, but generally everywhere.)

The mother of all shedding sessions awaits me this winter. I've pre-warned the Hoover....

I'm 20 weeks and my hair is ruined even tho I'm taking Deva Skin Hair and Nails (have been since before being preggers). Had to have loads cut off at the weekend :(

The omegas are meant to help hair growth/appearance as well, you often get omega oils together with your antenatal vitamins. Try and increase your intake of Vit E-rich foods maybe?
Other than that, it's as skipton said - you'll have to rely on your pregnancy vit supplements and in general pregnancy to do their job with your hair (but as calypso's post shows, this doesn't happen for everyone).

The texture of your hair is mainly genetic - there's not actually that much you can do about making it thicker per se, but factors such as diet and hormones do affect it. The texture of mine hasn't changed, it's just that it stops shedding during pregnancy so appears thicker.

Good diet is probably the main thing you can do, along with benign neglect - too much hair dryer/dye/straighteners etc are not good for your hair.

One biggie for hair growth is iron, so make sure your iron levels are ok. Your midwife should check this routinely. Just make sure your iron levels are actually too low before you take supplemental iron - some people (like me, but it's not a rare condition) absorb too much iron, which can be harmful, so we can't take multivits.

The percentages of vitamins in pregnacare is very similar to the perfectil skin, hair and nails vitamins (think there's more in the pregnacare ones if I remember correctly) and its
Pretty much the same vitamins in there too

I use the perfectil hair skin and nails one (same company that makes the pregnacare ones). Have been since pre-pregnancy as I have thin hair from a hormone issue. It's definitely helped. It has no vitamin a in it so is fine to take in pregnancy, though the websites advises you to switch to the pregnancare ones (which coincidentally are twice the price Hmm ). I don't take a pregnancy vitamin.
