Going to IKEA tomorrow: Lots of questions

Baby due end of Nov. Totally clueless about cots. Does anyone know if any IKEA cots are also cotbeds? Why do some cost more than others? Can you get a cot top changer that fits IKEA cots? Anyone got any specific recommendations?

Aside from a cot (possibly), planning to pick up some other stuff including lots of storage for baby stuff and things like muslins/dribble bibs etc. Anyone been recently for baby things and want to share their shopping list?

Thank you!!

Antilop high chair! Best high chair out there, and the cheapest. And get a couple of sets of the little blue, orange and green plastic plates and bowls. So cheap and useful.

Never heard the thing about drop-side cots being dangerous before.

I have the cheapest ikea cot at MiL's and I like it more than my Mama's and Papa's .
I had the same experience with my £200 M&P highchair and my Antilop.

I can't post the link as I'm on my phone but in 2010 there were 32 deaths caused by drop side cots in the US, at the time they had similar safety standards as ours do. They introduced new measures which effectively banned them, we also made some safety upgrades. In 2013. (I think) a baby in the UK had her neck snapped/ choked by one which fell on her whilst asleep. Initially operator error was blamed however after intensive tests it was found to be an issue inherent in drop side mechanism. Numbers on sale have fallen steadily since and there's been a handful of injurys due to them too- trapped fingers, arms toes etc.

Yes, tealights! Every time. Anyone else unable to leave Ikea without buying cushions, and another unnecessary Pimms jug?!

Is it all drop side cots do you know Junosmum?

Ours is a basic JL one and although it had a drop side it also has a height adjustable mattress and drop side can only be used when the base is set on the low setting (ie the design appears to mean that when mattress is high up the drop side is fixed) - I think (but haven't tried it yet) that the height difference when the mattress is in the low position would mean that even with the drop side down the top rail wouldn't be low enough to trap anything. Will investigate further!

Thanks everyone. Went for the Sundvik cot in the end, which coverts into a bed (but no drop side). Good tips on weaning stuff which hadn't occurred to me. Not quite ready to have Antilop in the house just yet but we're not far so can go back for it when need arises!

Well you need to make a list of all baby thing that you need. But I think it's not necessarily to bought everything in IKEA. You can for example bough something here www.qbicwashrooms.co.uk/ . I ordered a changing table and mounted it in the wall. It took not so much place as I thought.
