Worried that something is wrong

Hello all,

I am 18 weeks pregnant. Last week, I had a bubble like feeling in my tummy all everyday. It was at different times. This is my first pregnancy.
This week there has been nothing at all.
I am worried that something is wrong. I have been having shooting pains in my stomach and I am panicking that maybe all is not well with the baby.

I called my midwife who suggested that I should go to the local A&E to have a check up. I am just wondering what will happen if I go to the A&E as I don't think the EPU will be open at night?. Ideally, I would like to have a scan to be reassured that all is well with the baby. Does A&E have ultrasounds facilities?. Am sorry for the dumb question.

I don't know what to do. I am scared and worried.

Thank you for listening.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Sorry you're having a worrying time. I know how you feel as I've been terrified with any pain or niggle and change.
So as you're 18 weeks pregnant, you've 'graduated' from the EPU, as they only see patients up to the 12 week mark (or that's the rules at my local one).
You're best being seen at the Maternity Triage Department rather than A&E. Their number should be in your notes. If not, call the hospital switchboard and they'll transfer you.
You'll get to talk to an experienced midwife and she'll assess you over the phone and determine whether you need to be seen or not.
Remember that your body is growing and stretching to accommodate this baby, so some pain is normal. I had a lot of round ligament pain around that time, so it may be nothing to worry about and 18 weeks is still very early to recognise any regular movement pattern (as baby still has quite a lot of space to swim around and hide in!) but definitely call the hospital ax it's always best to have reassurance.
Let us know his you get on.

Ps. They are unlikely to scan you as they can do other checks first. Like use the Doppler and possibly do a trace on the heart monitor which is a clearer indication of baby's wellbeing. But big sure if 18 weeks baby is big enough for that.
Anyway, so get on the phone to Maternity Triage, they're open 24/7 and will be the best to help you.

The bubbling does stop at some point. Can you feel the baby kick, better if you lie still and concentrate.
Otherwise phone as advised.

Sizethree and Sally - thank you both for your suggestions.

Sizethree, thank you for understanding. I called my midwife who advised to go to the local A&E. She said they don't see women who are under 20 weeks. I don't know why. I do know that it's too early to feel any movements. What worries me is the shooting sharp pain, which I haven't had before.

Sally - The bubbling has stopped for a week now and nothing has happened.

Have you been up to A&E to get checked over?

Hi
Like you I'm 18 weeks. This is my 3rd pregnancy and I still worry just as much.
From 16 1/2 weeks I started to feel baby moving and fluttering about then last week for about 3 days in row I felt nothing and got really worried.
I phoned the local midwives number on the front of my hospital notes. The midway was great and reassured me this was quite normal at this stage. However, just to be sure she asked me to come in and check the baby's heart beat on the Doppler. Which we did that morning and luckily everything was fine baby's heart beat nice and strong.
If you have your midwife's number might be worth giving her a call.
Good luck!
