Hello all,
I'm new to the site. Looking for a bit of advice. I'm 6 weeks pregnant and started to get a brownish spotting on Saturday. Went to the hospital for a scan yesterday and was told not sure if there was anything there but there may be something by my ovary. This was even a cyst or an eptopic pregnancy. I had a blood test and my HCG was very high. I was told to got back tomorrow for another test and if the HCG had doubled then i have nothing to worry about. This morning the spotting was a bit heavier but I had no pain. I call the hospital and I was told that this was to be expected with an eptopic pregancy. I thought that this was a bit insensitive considering it is not 100% known whether this is an eptopic pregnancy (or do they know something that I don't?). I was told to just return tomorrow for the blood test. My question is this (1) could the pregnancy still continue successfully despite the bleeding? (2) If it is an eptopic pregnancy surely there would be pain accompanying the bleeding and are we not told that eptopics can be danagerous? If so then the hospital does not appear to be in hurry to discuss treatment. Sorry if I sound a bit neurotic but this is my first pergnancy and I dobn't know what is normal and what isn't but I wouldhave thought that if there was anything serious going on then i would be in pain. Has anyone else experienced what i'm going through and had a happy ending? Everything at this moment appears to be a bit doom and gloom. Even my hubby is telling me to expect the worse. Advice would be greatly appreciated.

Early spotting in pregnancy is not 100% due to an ectopic pregnancy and many women do get it, although you have done exactly the right thing by contacting the hospital. A lot of pregnancies do continue successfully despite spotting, but you must watch it very carefully. Ectopic pregnancies are usually (but not exclusively) painful, but if they are not spotted quickly enough can be very dangerous for you. My advice would be to get hold of your GP and explain to him/her you are not happy with the hospital's treatment of you, and also to get hold of your community midwife and get her on the case too. sending you big hugs.

I've had an ectopic and very high hcg is not contraindicated, but failure to double in 24 hrs is.
Pain yes extreme in my case
About 12 hrs after the spotting but all ectopics vary -
spotting in early preg cna mean something or nothing, like everything it varies madly.

Just be aware if you get any pain one sided or shoulder pain ring an ambulance and get to A+E pronto (did tbey say what side the ovarian thing seemed to be?
Good luck, hope you get great news tomorrow

i too have had an ectopic pg

the only way to be sure of an ectopic is by spotting it on a scan, or in surgery. my hcg levels indicated a normal uterine prgenancy. with me they weren't sure 'til they took me to surgery

what i would say is that pain is typically severe with an ep - like piffle i had bad pains - couldn't stand up

and i've had bleeding in the pregnancy (i'm 6 weeks too) but have seen a heartbeat in uytero - so bleeding isn't necessarily a ssign of a problem

ditto what piffle said about going to a&e if you have pain or if the bleeding gets worse

good luck and keep us posted xx
