Anterior placenta?

I am only 14+4 but I had a private baby bond scan at 11+5 and on my report it says: placenta position: anterior.
I read stories where women with placentas at the front don't feel their babies until 28 weeks sometimes and even then it's limited. I'm very disappointed and upset as I feel that feeling baby is move is all part of the joy of pregnancy and I feel I will be missing out. Also scared I'll be in hospital for reduced movements all the time and very scared of the panic an anterior placenta can cause as you can't feel as much. I havnt had a flutter yet.
Also what chance do I have of hearing heartbeat at sixteen week midwife app with an anterior placenta? I'm scared she won't be able to find it and then I'll panic.
This is my first baby, any positive anterior placenta stories?

I have one.

It's my first child so I don't have much to compare it to, but I've been feeling him since about 18 weeks. I'm now at 36 and the little monkey is kicking the living day lights out of me... :) if this is not feeling much then God help me if I ever have one with a posterior placenta!

As I say, I've nothing to compare it to but I've been feeling a lot of movement. Kicks, shuffles, turns, random shuffling, hiccups, the lot. He's head down now so I feel a definite difference when he's facing my back (I feel less) and when he's facing the front (little limbs thrashing around and protruding.)

Midwife has been able to get a heartbeat every time but one (and that was a stand in, very new mw while mine was on holiday.)

Hope that's positive :)

By the way, that bit between the screening and feeling the first kicks is an odd time. You are just sort of in limbo, waiting to feel something and get a proper bump.

Aw don't feel disappointed. It's not as bad as you think.

I have one too. This is the only pregnancy I've had with one (I'm on my fifth)

I did feel her later on than with the others for sure. But it was still just before 20 weeks. 14 weeks is quite early to feel much so I'd say don't worry about that. As Skipton said, you're in limbo now just waiting for something interesting to happen!

My midwife did have a struggle at 16 weeks to find the heartbeat but she sent me straight to the hospital and I was seen as soon as I got there. Everything was fine. No problems since then. You will learn the difference between placenta noise and heartbeat and it might take a few seconds to find but don't panic.

I've also had trouble with the little monkey during scans, I had a couple of extra bonding ones (this is our last baby) and getting good pics of her was a nightmare! She always had her face in the placenta or her cord right in front of her! She also wasn't in a good position for the 20 week scan and they had to rescan me a week or so later but there were no concerns, just that she was being awkward and wouldn't shift!

She's belting me to death today. I'm 38+5.

You'll still feel loads of movement. Even if you do feel less, please try to let go of your disappointment. You have a healthy baby growing in there! With my anterior placenta I still felt movement about 18 weeks- similar to my other pregnancy.

Hi I'm nearly 18 weeks and have an anterior placenta, my midwife found the heartbeat at my 16 week appt, it did take her a while but she found it :)

DotterP · 23/09/2015 14:20

I have an anterior placenta. I'm 22 weeks, and started feeling first proper movement a week ago at around 21 weeks. It is my first pregnancy, so I may well have felt it before then if I'd known what it felt like, but it's difficult early on to know what's baby and what's digestion! I'm now getting a few little jabs, and definite pops and rolls as they move around. I expect it won't be long until I'm feeling, and maybe even seeing, proper kicks. The midwife had no problem finding the heartbeat at my 16-week check - it was loud and clear straight away. So please don't worry yourself about it, everyone is different.

I had an anterior placenta with my oldest. Found out at the 20 week scan, and recall saying, I guess that's why I haven't really felt much yet. Was definitely feeling movements within the next couple of weeks though. I don't recall anyone having difficulty finding a heartbeat at any point though. Very similar to what DotterP has posted.

ShowOfHands · 23/09/2015 16:14

The baby will stick kick above, below and to the sides of the placenta. You just don't feel as much at the front and movements tend not to feel so strong at the beginning.

My first was an anterior placenta and she first kicked at 17 weeks and believe me, you get as kicked, prodded, tickled and stretched as with a posterior placenta. It's more the quality of movements that's different.

You get used to your own baby's patterns of movement and you look for deviations from that as opposed to deviations from what you imagine a woman with a posterior placenta might feel.

Don't worry. You won't miss out at all.

Oh and most places now don't listen out for the hb until you're over 25 weeks, regardless of where the placenta is.

EdgarAllenPoe · 23/09/2015 16:32

I have an anterior placenta and I am 25 weeks pregnant tomorrow. I should also say it's my first pregnancy so I've nothing to compare it to.

I started getting the lightest of flutters around 20-21 weeks (nothing before). Nothing I was sure of until about 22 weeks. Now I still don't get super regular movements (although I'm noticing a pattern, baby likes to keep me awake at 11pm!) but I do get lots of flutters and the odd proper kick. My husband has managed to feel them a couple of times. It does feel like I'm getting movements later and fainter than most, but it's not particularly worrisome. The baby wouldn't sit still for either scan and the heartbeat has always been clear.

chopsface · 23/09/2015 17:08

Hiya, I'm 28 weeks now but felt bub move from around 19 weeks with my anterior placenta. The movements get stronger with each week and I feel him kick, punch and do somersaults!! I think the only difference is that dh couldn't feel anything on the outside until the last couple of days. So that was a bit frustrating for us both.

bonzo77 · 23/09/2015 17:13

I had anterior placentas with my first 2, posterior with my third. Tbh I'd be grateful: the movements were very uncomfortable even painful with my third, and I felt them from around 12 weeks. With my first I felt them from around 24 weeks, and my second from maybe 16. Never any problems for mw's to find the HB and although I did go in with reduced movements, I did in all 3 pregnancies.

CarShare · 23/09/2015 17:25

Have an anterior placenta. Have home Doppler I've used since ten weeks and always heard heartbeat in an instant. Felt movement from about 16 weeks.

RooibosTeaAgain · 23/09/2015 19:06

I had an anterior placenta. I never felt much movement or regular movement until late pregnancy but learnt that was how it was ( otherwise would have gone every day for monitoring) so never went for monitoring. A first pregnancy so did not know otherwise.

embolina · 24/09/2015 15:05

I'm currently 22+6 with my second pregnancy but first anterior placenta. Personally I've been able to feel movement from 13 weeks! Obviously only flutters up to about 18 weeks, but from then on he's been giving me full on powerful kicks!

I'm actually surprised that there's no difference in feeling (for me) compared to a posterior placenta. I even found the hb with a home doppler at 10 weeks....
