Poco baby hammock?

Went shopping for nursery things the other day, and saw the poco baby hammock (instead of a moses basket etc). Anyone used it? Any good?
I saw that there was a safety scare about a similar one (Amby) a few years ago, but surely it must be safe if still being sold in main shops. It does conform to British safety codes. Just that others I have asked seem to look a bit Hmm when I described it, so am keen for other reviews!

I've never heard of it, just looked it up. I think its interesting but possibly a bit ridiculous in practise. Looks really awkward to get baby in and out. Also you'll want it close to your bed when baby is little. But I've never actually seen one, just going by the picture.

watching thread with interest as I'm also tempted...there's something about them (and similar hammocks) that appeals, but cant quite put my finger on it.

my concerns are...is it just a gimmicky thing? and does baby lay flat enough? (I thought this was important for babies)

does anyone know anywhere in real life that sells them? ...as opposed to internet, so we can see it and get a feel for size etc?

I have seen it in a pram shop near us, in Kirkaldy, and I thought it looked great. The lady says she sells lots of them, often to people whose babies struggle to settle in moses baskets/have reflux. She has sold them for ages and says people give her good feedback. I think we will probably go for it.

Hi pickle, just posted on your other thread about the hammock in the sleep section. Just to say: getting the baby in and out isn't difficult when you get the hang of it. It gets harder as the baby gets bigger and heavier and in recent weeks it's been a bit ridiculous getting my 10kg 10 month old in it, but she has well and truly grown out of it and up until the last month it has been no problem. In fact getting her in was easier than a moses basket/travel cot, because the hammock naturally gives and moves as you put the baby down, so the transition isn't as abrupt as putting them down onto a rigid cot (which tends to wake her up).

Thank you! I have replied and asked you a daft question about feet to foot in the other thread.

We have an Amby hammock and it's brilliant, used it for both DSs and about to get it out for DC3. We found that because it's on a spring they very quickly learnt to bounce themselves back to sleep.

We moved my bedside table and put it in the gap that was made so it was right by my side. With DC1 I did have a few problems working out how to get him in but I was afraid of dong anything with him, I even hated dressing him in case I hurt him lol, so that was just me. DS2 was much easier.

DS1 slept n it for 6 months and DS2 for 8 months so I think it outlasted a Moses basket. t's also portable so we took t away with us instead of using a travel cot. Anything else you want to know just ask!

Sounds good. Seems like people who use them tend to like them. Will go and buy I think. Thanks v much!

We have a miyo baby hammock, and it has been brilliant for DS, I am really looking forward to using it again once DC2 arrives in a few months. You will quickly get the hang of it, like with so many other things, don't worry. Ours is great for travelling, as you can just hang it off a door frame. It's absolutely safe, almost swaddles the baby.
I don't have any proof, but I am convinced that it contributed to making DS a brilliant sleeper right from the start...Smile

HazleNutt · 24/09/2015 15:11

Both kids loved he Amby - when they're about to wake up and make the hammock bounce, it often gets them to sleep again.
We use it downstairs for daytime naps though, I find the co-sleeper much more convenient at night.

I quite like the idea of these. The Amby frame looks quite big in the photos online and the Poco a bit smaller. Does anyone find the Amby large and difficult to fit in rooms or find space for?

nutmegandginger · 24/09/2015 20:13

The Amby isn't that large - takes up less floor space than a travel cot. Then again I've never seen the poco baby so I don't know how they compare. The Amby can last until about 10 or 11 months (guaranteed up to 12kg) so maybe the poco baby stops when they are smaller?

blacktreaclecat · 24/09/2015 20:26

Amby nest = amazing baby sleep machine
We loved ours

HazleNutt · 25/09/2015 10:13

I just checked the Poco and I'm pretty sure it's just renamed Amby, looks exactly like the one I have.

Sezramum · 25/09/2015 11:00

Thanks nutmeg and Hazlenutt. I am definitely going to try and get to see one properly! The new baby being a good sleeper would be great after DS. He was hard work as a baby and is still a little monkey now aged 9! He always seems to have trouble going to sleep at night but is the first to wake up!
