What is this stuff I am leaking...?

I'm 22 weeks. I've noticed recently that I'm "leaking" clear watery fluid. Not much, but enough that I feel it coming out and then my pants get damp. Its clear and watery and does not smell of wee. I have a pretty tight pelvic floor so that, combined with the lack of urine smell, makes me fairly confident its not wee.
It seems to happen every day, some days more noticeably than others. Anyone else had this? Any ideas?

Hmm, have you mentioned this to your midwife? I would give her a call and tell. Could be amniotic fluid...

Rosa · 22/09/2015 13:38

I would contact your GP and possibly ask for a check up and a scan just to check that everything is tight and secure and you are not loosing any amniotic fluid. It might not be anything but I would just get checked over.

patterkiller · 22/09/2015 13:38

I would give your midwife a quick call. Best to be cautious and get checked.

exoticjuicedrink · 22/09/2015 13:41

I would contact your midwife. I had increased watery clear discharge and to be on the safe side to ensure it wasn't waters prematurely leaking I was sent to the maternity assessment at hospital for a scan and an internal examination.

Nousername2015 · 22/09/2015 13:58

Echo exotic. I had the same experience at 19 weeks though I just had an internal. Discharge does ramp up from around the 18-22 week mark though so the chances are that it is that. One test they did with me at hospital was 'pooling' - had to lie completely still for at least 30 mins and then either get up/cough. The theory is if it is amniotic fluid it would collect and then gush out with sudden movement. Could be worth a try but always worth getting checked. Fwiw I still have days now where I feel 'damp' but my 20 week scan a week after the hosptial visit showed everything was fine.

mummyneedinganswers · 22/09/2015 14:16

I had this in sudden gushes turned out to just be loads of mucus but Pls call your midwife to get checked over never leave anything like that to chance. Also put a pad on aswell so they can see it if needs be xx

Brummiegirl15 · 22/09/2015 14:47

I get this as well and I'm 21 weeks but I think it's just excessive discharge. All was ok at 20 wk scan and I have a consultant appt next week so I will probably mention mine too

seriouslynonames · 22/09/2015 15:58

i had the same and was just cervical mucous changing - but agree with other posts to check in with midwife or hospital and to use a pad so you can show it if asked.
hope all well

fourlegstwolegs · 23/09/2015 09:50

Thanks all - will get it checked out.

Hi fourlegstwolegs just wondered how you are doing, I have been thinking of you. Have you managed to have a check up? Hope everything is ok

fourlegstwolegs · 25/09/2015 16:19

Hi - they sort of fobbed me off, saying it was probably urine. But it doesn't look or smell like urine! It hasn't happened for a day or so now though...I am using a pad to keep an eye on things.

I'd ask to be examined. I had this from 18 weeks and it turned out to be a type of discharge, but always better to get checked out, keep on at them.

bluewisteria · 26/09/2015 05:33

Yes I would second being examined, I'm pretty shocked they didn't. I would be on their doorstep making a humdinger of a noise until seen

Nousername2015 · 26/09/2015 07:01

If it was your waters fourlegs it wouldn't stop at all so that in itself is reassuring. They should still take some swabs to check for infection though.

FrancoisLaPrune · 28/09/2015 11:17

I completely agree with others - please do not let this drop, pester your midwife until they examine you.

I don't want to scaremonger but the same happened to me during my last pregnancy. At 16 weeks I woke up one morning and as I stood up from my bed I felt a gush and some fluid ran down my legs. I have my routine midwife appointment that day and was told not to worry, there is a lot of discharge during pregnancy and it was totally normal. I trusted her, I knew no different. The 'discharge' had stopped so I carried on thinking everything was fine.

When it came to my 20 week scan I was told that I didn't have enough amniotic fluid and they wanted to monitor me. At 22.5 wks I lost what was left of my fluid and went in to labour. My son didn't survive.

I am not trying to add to your worries or to suggest that this is the same as is happening to you but please please please get yourself checked out. If your midwife won't refer you, call the hospital, please don't be fobbed off like I was.

Cheesypop · 28/09/2015 22:40

Hmmm I'm nearly 22 weeks and have wet discharge, it's not exactly clear though, it has tiny flecks in it of dark/red, it also has a smell, not unpleasant but definitely not odourless. I just assumed this was normal discharge but I'll mention it to the midwife next week after reading this thread!

mummyneedinganswers · 28/09/2015 22:42

Cheesy pop I wouldn't wait I would call you maternity assessment unit and get checked tonight discharge with blood isn't good.

Cheesypop · 28/09/2015 23:06

You're probably right - especially as I have placenta previa. Gah. Ok I'll ring them... Thanks x

mummyneedinganswers · 28/09/2015 23:34

Yes definitely with parents previa you can't take any chances rather safe than sorry. You will feel better getting checked to make sure it's not the start of a placenta bleed x
