Pregnant after IVF? How many rounds did it take?

I am just doing to terms with the failure of our first IVF cycle (own eggs). I have in mind that we'll try twice more then draw a line under it. My sense is that a lot of first cycles fail but a lot of couples get there within 3.

Would be helpful to hear others' experiences as I am struggling with the uncertainty of it all.

Thanks.

First was a failure. Second gave me my 7 mo ds.

See the first cycle as a trial. I was down regging for too long the first time and didn't stimulate with a high enough dose. This resulted in not many eggs which were off average-at-best quality.

Second cycle I was medicated accurately and I produced a decent batch of good eggs.

Even if everything is perfect it often just doesn't work.

I'm currently 13 weeks pregnant after my second round of ICSI.

Don't lose hope! Best of luck with it.

Oops not finished......

I think your right to try three cycles. Make sure you are on adequate supplements - at a minimum coq10,prenatals and omegas for you. For your other half - coq10, conception vits, high dose vit c and e and omegas. Oh and make sure you have an endo scratch next time.

Good luck. It's horrendously difficult I know. It took 4 years, 2 mc and 2 ivf to have ds.

Thanks onthematleave. They only got 4 eggs from me but said that was as good as could be hoped at my age (just turned 42, met DH late in life). The embryos were apparently really good quality too, but I know they just go on appearance and it means nothing really.

I had read so much but my clinic never even offered an endo scratch. I feel they were pretty cursory about some aspects of the process, will be more vocal next time.

First failed and second cycle succeeded. I had ohss in first cycle so produced loads of eggs and then a good number of embryos. They were all frozen. Cycle one I had two transplanted but neither implanted. Second round I had various immune tests which concluded I was intolerant to gluten, and something else to do with receptors (sorry to be vague, but it's all a bit hazy now) so they also recommended only transferring one embryo. They also recommended having all the embryos checked for chromosome abnormalities, as this can affect implantation too. Hope that helps, and good luck Flowers

Success with first attempt ICSI IVF, 3 weeks to go til I meet her :)

I guess we were just lucky that everything worked for us, although I was very close to getting OHSS and my cycle being postponed. Stick with the same clinic as they will be able to adjust things from the last round to help with the next round.

Best of luck :)

My cousin's partner succeeded with third (and final) cycle. She was 45 at the time and now has a healthy 2 year old boy!

My friend has sadly just failed her 3rd round and is gearing up mentally to attempt her 4th Sad

5 goes for me this pregnancy (1 DD from previous rounds). 3 were with own eggs but 2 never made it to the 2ww (1 cancelled early and 1 with no fertilisation). Then moved to donor eggs and it worked the 2n attempt and now expecting twins. I think it was a combination of donor eggs, an anti-inflammatory diet and injectable progesterone that finally swung it. It's entirely down to personal choice and what you feel you can take, but sometimes persevering until you get the right protocol/medicine combination is what makes it work. Best of luck xx

All my cycles were ICSI with no down regging.

Cycle 1 failed, cycle 2 I had two embryos implanted and both took. Sadly I lost the twins at 20 weeks :( Cycle 3 I got pregnant with DD1 who is now 3.6 and clearly something changed because having tried for 10 years before getting pg with DD1 I then had 4 chemical pregnancies in a row after DD1 and then got pg again, demanded progesterone supplements from the doc to try to make that one stick around and as a result I now also have DD2 who is 2 in October! :)

Cycle 1 they got 10 mature eggs but the embies were bad quality, cycle 2 they got 6 eggs and only 2 were left on day 3 but they were both good quality. Cycle 3 they only got 3 eggs and only had one embie left on day 3 but it took and she is now sleeping in bed upstairs. Number of eggs therefore is not necessarily a predictor of success for the cycle so don't be depressed if you don't get as many eggs as you'd like.

23 weeks pregnant after 2nd round. 1st round ivf and 2nd round was ICSI.

As has already been said before the first round can be seen as almost a trial round.

For my second round we made adjustments and I had the scratch done.

Don't give up - good luck xx
