Co sleeping cots/cribs

Any reccomendations for co sleepers? Looking at Chicco next to me, Snuzpod or Bednest.
Confused as to what will work best. Third dc but c-section this time so want something easy for night feeds but like the idea of being able to zip baby up after into own space if possible.

The chicco, you won't be able to just "zip it up" of type using it as a bedside crib. It's a bit complicated, straps to your bed to stop it shifting and the side becomes locked into place and difficult to reattach unless you unstrap.

TenForward82 · 14/09/2015 21:08

If you're using it as* - sorry!

hi, I have done a ton of research on this and am now down to two options-the snuzpod (which you can have attached to the bed while the mesh side is up or down) and the Amby Baby.
If you search the threads you should find a rather long one on this.
I like the idea of co-sleepers but I am terrified of pushing a pillow or duvet on the baby while asleep so for me the Chicco and similar are out.
A lot of good had been said about the Amby baby-although not attached to the bed it's easy to have it near and unlike with the beds that attach you will not have any problems swinging your legs off the side of the bed to get up easily. Amby baby is also easy to fold and take away with you as travel cot.

Let me know if you find anything else suitable Smile

If you aren't bothered about having he side down, look at the mothercare Hyde crib. It's just a regular crib so doesn't attach but it can go next to bed and easy to get baby in and out still. Can also lift easily and move to another room on same level if needed. Or to bathroom whilst you bath if you want to be near baby, or in living room for naps if you live in a flat

I have the Chico next to me- still pregnant so haven't used it yet but have set it up and played around with it. It seems to me you can put the side up when attached to the bed, I was able to anyway. It is height adjustable so you can have the crib lower than your bed so you couldn't roll onto baby if you see what I mean. It also folds up into a travel bag so can be used as a travel cot. I bought it second hand in perfect condition for £50 and am very pleased with it- will see how it works out soon! Friends have also recommend the nct bed nest.

VeryPunny · 15/09/2015 09:41

We just took the sides off a normal cot and bungeed it to our bed. The cot had an adjustable base so it was the same height as our mattress. In the early days we had the Sleepyhead bednest in there as well.

NotSoFancyNancy · 15/09/2015 20:59

Be happy I think I'm leaning towards the snuzpod. I do like the idea of baby being close if necessary. No contorting to settle baby! But also the idea of baby having own space if necessary.
Acquiescence do you find it easy to put side of Chicco up and down when attached to bed?

I used a snuzpod with my DS. I loved it and loved being so close to DS. I didn't have a section but it's worth noting that babies are heavier than you think and taking them out of a co sleeper means turning at at awkward angle and I sometimes wonder if it would've been easier in the back to just have had a normal crib!

TheOddity · 15/09/2015 21:08

I have heard of lots of people having success with a cheap ikea bed with the side off, bunged underneath to your bed. Then for the rest of the time you could just get a Moses basket. That snuzpod thing looks pretty insubstantial to me. If you buy a cot bed from ikea it will be cheaper and last a whole lot longer. Anyway, I plan to just take side off a normal cot (second child, learnt the hard way that cosleeping is the only sensible plan if you don't like hearing babies cry for more than ten seconds)

TheOddity · 15/09/2015 21:09

That is bungied underneath, not bunged underneath! That might be a SS issue!

NotSoFancyNancy · 15/09/2015 21:48

No where near idea here unfortunately. Saving a fortune though by not!!
Ordered snuzpod. Reviews generally seem positive. Can eBay if not for us.
Agree cosleeping the way to go. Have a 2yr dd who will happily sleep on my head!

IKEA not idea!

SnozzberryPie · 15/09/2015 21:54

We took the side off an ikea cot and it worked just fine. Dd however had other ideas and would only sleep between me and dp Confused

The good news is our cat loved the cot...

BearFoxBear · 15/09/2015 22:00

I loved our bednest and was sad to see it go. It's really important to be able to put the side up so that it's like a normal cot when you want to put the baby to bed a little bit earlier than you iyswim? It was great for that, felt very secure, and ds was very happy in it. We rented it and once ds outgrew it, we gave it back. All very easy.

CerseiLannistersEyebrow · 16/09/2015 00:07

We've loved our snuzpod. He's grown out if it so if you're near London and want to buy one cheap let me know!

NotSoFancyNancy · 16/09/2015 08:23

Cersei no longer near London but great you got on so well with snuzpod!

I really recommend the bednest, too. We used one last year after my c-section and it was perfect. Could gaze at her or sleep myself with a hand on top of her, no problems getting her in and out at night. I was bereft when she moved into a cot a metre away at 4 months. She was clearly too big for the bednest by then but I loved having her so close.

BuggerLumpsAnnoyed · 16/09/2015 13:08

My snuzpod arrived the other week and it's lovely (and I'm not the type to gush over furniture)

Really easy to assemble, did it while DH was out as its much harder for us to do these things together!

I have quite a high bed which ruled the chicco out. Also I like the bassinet feature as we were always carrying DS around the house in his Moses basket. The shelf at the bottoms great as well..I ordered all the lovely bedding and am keeping it there. It just sort of ticked all our boxes. the base goes flat so when we go to out parents, I'm just going to fold the base and pack all our things in the bassinet.

Did you get the mattress protector?

NotSoFancyNancy · 16/09/2015 22:26

I got mattress protector alright and a few sheets. Have plenty bedding left from older kids. Looking forward to getting now.

Co sleepers are such a rip off. The cheap white Ikea cot fit perfectly up against the side if our bed securely and seamlessly. It's been gear because at 6 mts I detached it, put the side back on and she can use it for another 2 yrs.

MrsHenryCrawford · 22/09/2015 20:39

Also had a normal cot with the side removed pushed up against the bed. When ds started sleeping better at three months we put the side back on. Will be planning something similar with the next one

BuggerLumpsAnnoyed · 22/09/2015 20:40

I guess it's a matter of opinion. I think it was worth the money as you can easily put the side up and down while it's attached to the bed, so it's safe if you're in the shower or anything. Also, I like the bassinet feature so I can keep the baby with me round the house. And if you've got a smaller room, a giant cot isn't always practical

BearFoxBear · 23/09/2015 10:00

I agree with bugger, I wouldn't have felt comfortable leaving ds in a normal cot when i put him to bed before me etc. And the bednest was the perfect size for our bedroom.
