Hospital Bag - Twins

Me again!
I decided to get prepared and packed my hospital bag. As we're having twins and I'll be getting induced at 37 weeks I assume we'll have to stay for at least 1 night, possibly 2, so have packed with that in mind. If we're there any longer for whatever reason then family can always bring more stuff when they come to visit.

I have packed the following:
12 vests + sleep suits (with built in scratch mits)
2 small packs nappies
Cotton wool
2 cardigans
2 hats
2 thick blankets (our hosp provide thin blankets and towels)
1 tin formula + bottles (in case BF is too hard with 2 of them and they need a top up)
2 packs pads
Breastpads

I still need to pack some pj's, clothes and toiletries, etc. for myself, but in terms of baby stuff, have I forgotten anything? Is there anything I'll need more of?

Nappies, muslins, nappy sacks?

RockerMummy184 · 13/09/2015 08:06

Sorry, forgot to say nappies and nappy sacks.
Muslins! Thanks! Smile

You've packed 12 sleep suits and 12 vests? I don't think I've got that many sleep suits! Must get more today! Think I've put two each in!

I had a couple of nappy explosions with DS (the initial black sticky tar poos are a nightmare!) So thought if I pack 2 each for each day and then 2 spares we should be okay? Maybe I've overdone it?

I think two suits a day for each baby is about right - I have packed three for a single baby, assuming possibly a one night stay.

Hospitals are generally hot. Think blankets and card is are probably only useful for coming home so you could stash those with car seats?

Also I'm taking 2 sleep suits for 1 night, might add one more in for 2 nights. I reckon 6 would be enough.

Towels? Some hospitals don't provide. A breastfeeding pillow, maybe v shaped if you're doing tandem feeding. Nail clippers in case they have sharp claws!! Olive oil? Water wipes? Might be quicker than cotton wool as you'll have two.

I'm doing the same at the moment. I'm also including nighties in case of cs.
You've packed more baby clothes than me! I've included 6 sleepsuits and then dh can just bring more in.

I've packed about the same, but also added Water Wipes in case cotton wool is too much faff with two post-surgery. I've packed loads of sleep suits too, and vests. My suitcase could do me a fortnight in the Canaries.

I'll find out over the next few days if I've got enough/too much!

I had twins, thankfully it was my second pregnancy so I knew how much I'd overpacked the first time!!

I took:

2 vests each
2 sleepsuits each
1 small pack of nappies
1 pack of wipes (bugger the faff of cotton wool and water!)
1 pack maternity pads
1 nightwear for me
1 change of clothes for me
towel for me (dark coloured!)
2 muslins
a handful of breastpads
nipple cream
2 blankets (my gran had knitted them)
wash bag with travel size toiletries for me

at home i left another small bag with:
2 vests
2 sleepsuits
2 muslins
1 nightwear for me
1 change of clothes for me

DH was going home at night anyway and i was going to call him in the morning to say if we were coming home or staying in, if staying in he would bring the bag of clean clothes and would take the dirty home with him. Saves taking all but the kitchen sink in!

hospital should provide formula if you are having problems feeding, but again, i would leaving this with the 'day 2' bag for DH/P to bring in if needed if you'd rather use your own.

hospitals are hot - babies will not need hats and cardis unless its mid winter birth? then a hat each for coming home. i never used cardis with ours as once you get to the car it will be warm again so better to have a blanket to cover while outside that can be removed without disturbing the babies once you're in the car.

Give DH/P a tour of your nursery at home so he knows where to find more clothes and nappies and clothes and extra pads for you if you end up staying in longer.

If you want special outfits for them to go in straight after birth, put them in labelled freezer bags (with a nappy) so your DH/P can find them easily as its likely he will be the one dressing them or at least handing clothes to the MW to dress them!!

sorry, that seems really long, but with my first i looked like i was moving in to the hospital for a month and it was just crazy taking so much stuff in when DH would be coming home anyway! i took less in having twins then i did for singleton DC1!
