Did anyone have a private early scan?

I don't think I can wait until 12weeks as I am so worried and am considering a scan at 8 weeks to try and reassure me.

Did anyone have a scan at 8w, was it worth it?

Thanks

I did, nothing to see but nice to know that it had a heart beat

Poppytime · 10/09/2015 20:11

I had a private scan with both my pregnancies at 8 weeks, for reassurance (worrier) and it was worth it for me. At that point you can usually see a heartbeat (and estimate of dates) which although no guarantee that all is ok, it definitely is a good indication that the pregnancy is developing as it should - it basically helped me get through the long weeks until the 12 week scan! Affordability can be an issue though - some are expensive. I think I paid about £80? I am in central London though, I imagine you can get it cheaper elsewhere.

Lbee123 · 10/09/2015 20:13

I did...I had constant moderate aches and pains that I couldn't stop worrying about despite everywhere/everyone saying it's normal. I turned out to be further along than I originally thought though (10 weeks) but was amazing to see heartbeat and baby moving around. Really helped reassure me until the NHS dating scan too (which I was 14 weeks at).

Junosmum · 10/09/2015 20:17

I know a few that went badly- told baby was ok but their dates were off, so baby was small. 1 or 2 weeks later they both miscarried.

Choose your clinic wisely. Anyone can by the equipment, it doesn't require any special trading and is not a regulated industry.

Greyhorses · 10/09/2015 20:17

Thank you everyone. I think it's around £90 so not cheap. I am debating whether it will be worth it in the hope I will sleep at night...then again as soon as I leave the room the worry will proberbly kick back in Smile

I am just hoping knowing it has a heartbeat and looks as it should will keep me going until 12w!

I had a scan at 7+3 last week. I had a miscarriage a few months earlier and just wanted to know how it was going, especially as I haven't got many symptoms. For me it was worth it. I could see the baby and hear the heartbeat and the dates were exactly as I thought. 6 days on and I'm a lot calmer!

Brummiegirl15 · 10/09/2015 21:27

As Juno's mum has said be careful. They just use the equipment and can't really interpret the results.

It's a nice to have but sometime can cause worry.

The best scans are the NHS ones in all honesty

YouBastardSockBalls · 10/09/2015 21:29

I have a friend who's a vet and I scanned myself with their cattle scanner. Just saw a blob and a heartbeat. That was at about ten weeks.

TheOriginalWinkly · 10/09/2015 21:31

I did, with both pregnancies. The first diagnosed a MMC weeks before my NHS scan, saving me weeks of false hope. The next showed my healthy wriggly baby, which eased my worries following the first.

PuppyMouse · 10/09/2015 21:33

I had one at Spire in Bristol. Really reassuring because I just didn't believe I was pregnant until we heard that heartbeat! 12 weeks felt like a long time to wait....

PeppasNanna · 10/09/2015 21:57

I did with my 6th pregnancy. 7 weeks & 4 days. I was so worried.

Sadly I had a MMC but those little pictures are still very precious to me.

putthePuffindown · 10/09/2015 22:06

I had one at 9 weeks as I'd had 2 MCs previously. Was best £50 I ever spent and even if it had been bad news I think the smaller setting and the private room would have helped. I just couldn't face sitting in the NHS scan waiting room again, not knowing, surrounded by happy people.

CarShare · 11/09/2015 09:31

bastard that's brilliant. My sister's a vet- wish I'd thought to ask.
I had a private scan at 8 weeks and def consider it money well spent. Relaxed a lot more in the run up to the 12 week scan having seen and heard the heartbeat.

HJBeans · 11/09/2015 14:50

Yes, same here. Two early scans to alleviate worry after two miscarriages and never regretted the cost. Also had / will have gender scans at 16 to break up the 12-20 week wait with more reassurance. Both really helpful to me.

honeysucklejasmine · 11/09/2015 14:55

Mine was £40, done by ex-NHS sonographer and midwife. Worth every penny, for reassurance. Had a previous MC so wanted to know.

MoltenBrownChocolate · 11/09/2015 14:55

I did after having miscarried. It was very reassuring to hear heart beat and see the foetus although it didn't resemble a baby.
If you're near London I can highly recommend the Fetal Medicine Clinic in Harley St. Good luck

MoltenBrownChocolate · 11/09/2015 14:56

Oops, Fetal Medicone Centre not Clinic

camembertlovernomore · 11/09/2015 15:06

I had one at 8 weeks and 3 days as was feeling really anxious (and didn't really believe I was pg as barely had any symptoms!] it was so lovely and a huge relief to see it wriggling away and knowing everything was progressing as it should be. I was amazed how clear the photos were and they sent us a little video as well. We paid £100 and it was definitely worth it imo. If you're in London we went to the Birth Company near Regent's Park and can highly recommend them, they didn't rush us and the lady was so friendly and professional. I would definitely do it again and have now been a lot more relaxed about my lack of symptoms. Good luck

Hackersschmakers · 11/09/2015 15:17

Love the idea of jut having a go with the cattle scannerGrin

I did - 7+5, she knew what she was doing - she picked up my mo/di twins an knew what that meant which is more than some of the NHS staff I encountered did.

emmac3616 · 11/09/2015 20:41

I had one as was very confused by my dates and didn't really believe I was pregnant. That was at 7+1 and I found it SO reassuring... has made the wait for the NHS dating scan SO MUCH easier and was lovely to see the heart beat. It was at the Womens Wellness Centre in Chelsea, £120, but worth every penny to me. I've been feeling hideously sick so knowing there is at least hope of getting to 12w has kept me going!

TriJo · 12/09/2015 07:43

Had an early scan at the Fetal Medicine Centre at what turned out to be 9 weeks because I was very unsure on dates. I was around 2 weeks ahead of what I had suspected and was then put another 2 days forward at my 12 week NHS scan yesterday.

Aus26 · 12/09/2015 08:58

I'm around 9 weeks +5 and had a private scan last weekend. It cost about £80 and was money well spent - we found out we're pg with DCDA twins! we were a bit shocked and in hindsight I didn't really pay as much attention to what was happening as I would have liked so I'm having another shorter, cheaper scan on tuesday just for some further reassurance. Honestly I'm a bit of a worrier and I'd do one every bloody week if I could.
