iud pain or implantation?

Hi ladies, I've had a copper iud for 2 years now and everything's been fine apart from longer periods. For the last 2 days though I've had an intermittent sharp pinching/hot pain in my left side around the ovary area and lower down in the middle. Yesterday I had a feel for the strings and i can feel the iud a short way into my cervix. DH and I dtd the night I think I would've ovulated. I know the copper iud only stops implantation if positioned correctly and im pretty sure it was when we dtd(he would've felt it) but could've moved any time since then, now approx 6dpo. Am I to assume the pain is the iud digging in somewhere or possible implantation cramps since its no longer where it should be? Any input appreciated x

You mean you can feel the body of the iud? Not just the strings? You need to make an urgent appt with your GP or your local sexual health clinic (who are often better at inserting these things!)

It's very important you do this quickly - if the iud is breaching your cervix you are prone to infection - no more dtd until it's sorted (no tampons either)
If you absolutely must have sex, you need to use condoms, but personally I'd avoid it until you have the iud removed and replaced.

Well i did ask for an appointment yesterday but they said nothing with the family panning nurse until end of October and the gps arn't trained to take iuds out. They said go to urgent care if I feel unwell or am in a lot of pain. Helpful! I may as well take it out myself as getting a day off work at short notice will be impossible too. I know an infection would be bad but tbh im more worried about being pregnant, I've already had one termination after getting pregnant on the mini pill and it would be just my luck for it to happen again! I already have 2 kids and we're not in a position to have another one. What a pain!!!

You absolutely cannot wait until the end of October !! Jeez, a GP should be able to whip it out (I can understand them not wanting to insert another, insertion is a different kettle of fish to removal.) or a nurse, or a midwife, but it does need looking at. Time to be pushy!

And they wonder why AandE is under stress when things like this, which should be copeable-with by your GP surgery are sent to urgent care. Grr!

Please get seen, if this is causing you pain. Don't be fobbed off :(

It's ridiculous, they said there was no chance the gp would do as they just don't deal with that stuff and I don't need to be seen immediately, this from the receptionist who isn't medically trained.
If I don't feel right ill go but it's literally a bit of mild pinch pain on one side and it feels too high up to be the iud. I want to get my tubes tied but DH said he might want a child one day (mine are not his), guess ill just wait til he decides either way then....

Gps absolutely can (and do) take them out!!!! Do you have a walk in centre that you could go to you will need to be seen asap. X

I know its silly, they told me this before as well but if push come to shove I'll just take it out myself, I don't want to take it out yet though in case I could pregnant after that. I'm worried since I don't know how long it's been in the wrong place, if it moved after before/soon after ovulation that's not good is it? I know ill know either way in a weeks time but you cant help worrying and thinking the worst. has anyone experienced this before? Arghhhh!!! theres always something!

Do not take it out yourself!!!!!! You're already in pain and you could potentially do more damage. Go to the bloody Drs that's what they're there for. If they say there are no apps ask for the duty doctor. If the receptionist gives you jip say its none of their business and that you need a doctor!!

I wouldn't attempt it if it felt like it wouldn't come out, I don't think they'll do any different than give it a gentle tug and ive read lots of posts where people have done it themselves. I'm more worried about being PG. how likely is it? until recently I thought the coil was the best thing but ive read loads of women have got pregnant with it, I mean wtf! how can they market it as being the next best thing to sterilisation?! anyway yes I'm gonna nag the doctors again in a couple of days, don't want to increase the risk of PG any more though. It was only intermittent mild pain for a couple of days so I'm not overly worried about that. I just want to hear if anyone has got pregnant after the same thing happening?
