Hello, I'm planning on making my Brothers girlfriend a little 'relax hamper' for after baby is born.. What should I put in? Smile

That's a lovely idea.
I'd have liked food e.g. chocolate, biscuits etc
Hand cream is good, mine were really dry from all the extra hand washing after nappies etc. Some people did bring me bath stuff, which was a lovely thought but you don't really have time for a long soak with a newborn

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 09/09/2015 15:56

A bit pricey perhaps but someone bought me a couple of months Netflix too. That was amazing!

soloula · 09/09/2015 15:58

Dry shampoo was a godsend when I had DD. :)

Newlywed123 · 09/09/2015 16:16

Hand cream and dry shampoo are brilliant ideas! I was thinking Candles and face masks as I know my brother will let her have a soak in the bath.. And ofcourse chocolates! Definitely going to add hand cream and dry shampoo now to, my hands were so dry after my first and my hair was well horrific!

lovely idea, I would suggest Mama Mio cosmetics to deal with any strechmarks...it seems this stuff works!

fairyfeatures · 09/09/2015 16:21

Wine.
Soft Cheese.
Wine.
All the varieties of shellfish you can think of.
Wine.

I am missing these things very much!! Haha.

The dry shampoo and Netflix are also absolutely fab ideas too!

How about a babysitting voucher from you too? Even if she could go and just sleep for a few hours while you sit downstairs with the baby? Make one yourself with a little rhyme on it about her taking time to rest?

docmcstuffins1 · 09/09/2015 16:36

What a lovely idea!

Runningupthathill82 · 09/09/2015 16:40

Wine, Stilton, DVDs (for all those hours on the sofa breastfeeding), a big pair of pyjamas in a size bigger than normal. Chocolate!

Nice as the thought is, i wouldn't bother with face masks and candles - I still have bath stuff I was bought while pregnant with DS that I haven't had time to use yet. He's three in a couple of weeks....!

GrizzlebertGrumbledink · 09/09/2015 16:43

Nipple cream, paracetamol, wine and smelly cheeses. Maybe some elderflower cordial too as breast feeding makes me so thirsty!

sheepflower · 09/09/2015 16:48

Champagne! Or Prosecco. Or wine, beer... Just booze really Wine

mumofmunchkin · 09/09/2015 17:05

A box set/dvds if you know the type of thing she likes

Comfy pyjamas

A gift card for Costa/Starbucks

A nice drinks bottle with a sports cap so she can carry a drink round easily, especially if she's breastfeeding

BornToFolk · 09/09/2015 17:10

Definitely no bath stuff! I got given quite a bit after DS was born and I actually found it quite depressing as it felt like I'd never have time for a decent bath ever, ever again....Grin

I probably would have appreciated nice shower stuff though, or hand cream.

What about a travel mug to keep hot drinks warm? Especially good if lidded so she can drink tea while feeding without risk of scalding the baby!

Iloveonionchutney · 09/09/2015 17:24

Definitely some nice nibbles, I've already told dh to make sure we have cheeses and pate in for when I get home, along with a Starbucks and a nice bottle of wine!

Heavenscent86 · 09/09/2015 17:26

Hot chocolate drink, a pack of mini marshmallows and one of those fancy chocolate teaspoons if you can get one. I'd love that myself.

MyFavouriteClintonisGeorge · 09/09/2015 17:56

Really nice coffee;
Very cosy socks;
Fancy short-cut foods like pasta sauce from Carluccio's;
Magazines.

soloula · 09/09/2015 18:36

I'd be wary of stuff specifically for breastfeeding like nipple cream as if she's managed to feed then she's probably already got lansinoh or something similar as the early days are when you use these things most. A travel mug that a pp suggested is a great idea and doesn't have to be specifically for feeding - handy for when baby falls asleep on you and you can't move or just to keep drinks warm for that wee bit longer as cold tea is an all too common occurrence for new mums!

I spent a lot of time on my mobile when I was feeding so maybe a voucher for the App Store might be appreciated?

Newlywed123 · 09/09/2015 18:37

She doesn't have internet so can't do the Netflix idea. Love the ready food, travel mug and fluffy socks!

Definitely going to do a babysitting voucher, but the only problem is I'm due a month before her and will have a nearly 2 year old.. But won't mind helping out as its her first Smile

Some brilliant ideas!

Some lovely special cookies or biccies, some posh fruit or decaff tea, water bottle

TreeSparrow · 09/09/2015 18:39

Pate
Wine
Fizz
Brie
Camembert
Wheat beers
Selection of stinky blue cheeses
Pate

BitOutOfPractice · 09/09/2015 18:41

Wine. Just wine.

ARV1981 · 10/09/2015 06:27

Yep, I second all the foods she's had to give up during pregnancy. If someone gave me those, I'd be so so happy! Dh has a list, so here's hoping he'll deliver!

Lovely idea btw.

ShootTheMoon · 10/09/2015 06:40

A friend just made me a fab care pack for DC2 who was born last week.

The best things have been Lucozade Sport, some Betty Crocker cake mixes (handy for all the visitors as well as for me to indulge in), some Bio Oil, as well as breast pads which I hadn't yet got around to buying!

We had to be readmitted to hospital so lots of drinks, easy snacks like flapjack and Now TV/Netflix have been amazing. All my lovely flower deliveries are at home and they'll probably be finished by the time we get out.

Lweji · 10/09/2015 06:41

If she is likely to breastfeed it's not likely that she will drink much wine for that period.

And at the risk of being called feminazi:
"I know my brother will let her have a soak in the bath..."
Does she need permission to have a soak? Language can have a pervasive impact in our lives. Think about it. :)

But for the hamper, you got the basis covered and I'd ask your brother for any other specific ideas. Or do you know anything that she particularly likes?

A range of special hot drinks and instant soups, for example.

SaltySeaBird · 10/09/2015 07:10

What a lovely idea. I'd love a friend or relative to do something like that for me. With DD I got lots of gifts for her which was all clothing. Not a single person gave me anything for me.

I love the idea of a food hamper - I'd love pate and stinky cheese!

Also love the idea of a travel cup with a few drinks sachets.

A bit more expensive so maybe suggestions for your brother to buy but how about a pod coffee machine or Kindle ...

LilyRose16 · 10/09/2015 09:45

Some fab ideas on here, is it really bad that im now considering making myself a gift box?!
