I'm around 9 weeks pregnant I think but my 1st scan isn't till Oct 23? I'm 35 and this is my 1st. Is that nor a bit long? I have a midwife appointment this week though

Yeah, that's a bit long, unless you don't plan to have the combined tests?

mummyneedinganswers · 09/09/2015 13:52

So that would make you 15 weeks I think that is long gut all scans at my hospital are done at booking appointment which is 12 weeks. I think 15 weeks passes some of the screening test limits though so be sure to check

Yes if you would like the combined nuchal test you will miss the deadline. If you do want it then ring the number on the letter and they should do everything they can to accommodate you. My hospital wouldn't and I ended up paying privately - not because it would have changed how I proceeded with the pregnancy but just because I felt I needed to know. If you don't want the nuchal then you might find they won't fit you in any earlier in which case you could always pay for a private reassurance scan for around ??50 xx

Woah I don't know any of these types of scans! I'm not sure why I'm so far off for a scan I live less than 4 minutes walk from my hospital. I see my midwife saturday so I will ask. I could probably find out the gender by then. Maybe I could switch my hospital to the Royal Free maybe then I can get an earlier scan. I'm so nervous. 35 and nervous lol

Far too long. If you want the nuchal fold scan you need to be seen before 13.6. Do not let them book you in for a scan at 13.6 either as your dates might be out a bit. There's no leeway with the scan dates - past 13.6 the foetal lymphatic system kicks in and the fluid measurement is useless.

The quad test (what they give you past 14 weeks) is nowhere near as reliable so it's time to get polite but firm...you need to get them to book a scan ideally between week 12 and 13. I've seen several people on these boards be told that 'oh but the quad is just one or two percent less accurate' - this is not true!

Don't wait to talk to your midwife as it's unlikely she can change it. Ring the antenatal clinic today.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 11/09/2015 07:49

And ask to speak to a midwife if the receptionist won't change it.

birdbrain21 · 11/09/2015 07:50

What hospital are you with at the moment? You mentioned switching to the royal free? Do your research before you choose a hospital. I found them fab for antenatal care and my delivery was okay but as a first time mum the postnatal care was rubbish I came out of hospital nkt knowing what tk do with bleeding nipples because I'd fed my baby half a dozen times before anyone showed me how to do it correctly and I know from other friends they had similar experiences. They're very busy and don't really have time for you once you've given birth. I know that's not what you asked and hope you get your scan date slrted just wanted to warn you...

That seems far too long! I had a private scan at 7wks as I couldnt wait for my NHS scan... 15wks is an age!

Lucy61 · 11/09/2015 21:00

This happened to me. I phone the hospital directly and they changed it there and then. They often have cancellations so there is some flexibility. There should be a number on your letter, or at least the name of the dept. call them.

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 11/09/2015 21:02

Phone the hospital and ask for an earlier scan.

MrsPCR · 11/09/2015 22:41

Speak directly to the ultrasound department. My hospital booked it dead on 12 weeks based on LMP.
