I did with DS first time around: bought just enough to see me through & a lot of same-y style tops. By the end of pregnancy I wanted to throw them all out of the window I was so fed up of the same limited merry-go-round of stuff! My friend felt the same with her pregnancy too.

I'm currently pregnant with DC2 and have made the effort to get a wider and nicer selection of stuff (not necessarily expensive either). What a difference to last time as getting dressed is a joy now!Smile

Anyway I just wanted to share my experience in case helps stop someone getting to that "aarggghhh/Uggghhhh!!" stage of pregnancy wardrobe.

Thanks! I'm only 6+2 and I bought 2 dresses in the sale from ASOS at the weekend. They arrived today & I'm itching to get home from work and have a look :D :D

Good thinking!

Can I ask which shops you get maternity clothes from?

sizethree · 08/09/2015 18:05

I've been getting a lot of maternity clothes from eBay. Especially Bew Look dresses. If you go into the actual shop first to try on and find your size, then it's easy to search for specifics on eBay. And the great thing about maternity clothes is they often don't get a huge amount of wear, so the stuff I've bought second hand is still in great condition / and about a quarter of the price.

annatha · 08/09/2015 18:40

Yes! I bought as little as possible then found that I couldn't fit into my old clothes post partum so ended up buying more stuff anyway. EBay and fb selling groups (specific ones like "can I breastfeed in it?") are good.

AnyoneButAndre · 08/09/2015 18:45

I dunno. I bought as little as possible full on pg clothes, but quite a lot of in-between 6 monthy sort of stuff which I could then use post partum. Mind you it helped that I still had a wardrobe full of huge baggy silk shirts left over from the eighties which were a godsend because they all still fitted right up to 42 weeks but still looked reasonably smart, unlike the normal "wear DH's sweatshirts" options.

AnyoneButAndre · 08/09/2015 18:46

The "in between" stuff was just two sizes larger than my usual with elasticated waists. Looked fine.

Skiptonlass · 08/09/2015 19:06

Ive found that as long as I have maternity jeans, most of my tops still fit, and almost all my dresses still fit, so I've not had to buy that much, even though my bump is so large it's got stuff in orbit around it... :)

Disclaimer: I've lost quite a bit of weight being pregnant, and I clearly used to live in stretchy Jersey stuff!

ARV1981 · 09/09/2015 07:00

I've found that normal maxi dresses made from Jersey fabric have been a godsend. However, as the weather has turned (or has here anyway) it may not be appropriate for you... I guess jumper dresses with leggings would be the winter equivalent.

I have loads of maternity tops which I plan on giving to my sisters, who are both upduffed (and due within a week of each other!). But I did get some tops that work for both pregnancy and nursing so will keep those for a bit longer.

I'll also give my twin the wireless bras I bought early on when my boobs grew and wires were so freaking uncomfortable) as there's plenty of wear left in them (is this gross? I don't think so between sisters...?)

Autumn2014 · 09/09/2015 10:02

I plan on buying some new maternity wear second time round but it is more because it's a different season for my second pregnancy so wrong type of clothes. Secondly in my previous pregnancy I was working and this time I'm a sahm so need more casual stuff, oh and I'm a bit bigger this time round! I plan on getting some stuff preloved to stretch my budget.

MayFlowers16 · 09/09/2015 20:42

I agree op. This is my second (and last) pregnancy so I am making the most of it!

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 09/09/2015 21:24

I've barely spent a penny on mat clothes. A friend lost a load of weight, so I've been given a load of their bigger clothes and shirts. Anything that's started 'riding up', I wear a cheap, tight strappy black top underneath. However, I'm now nearly 37 weeks, and still don't have a very big bump (I'm quite tall, baby lying long), so think I can get away with it more than ladies who look pregnant quite quickly and need mat clothes longer. I'm jealous, I wish I had a good reason to splash on proper maternity clothing!

u32ng · 10/09/2015 07:31

tessiegirl here's where I've got all my stuff from. A mix of from both last pregnancy & this time around:
eBay - dresses & seraphine jeans

Topshop - dress

H&M - jeans, tights, winter jacket, non-mat strappy vests, basic tops

New look - work trousers, skinny jeans, tops

Seraphine - skinny jeans, leggings (which are FAB and like a second skin!)

Aldi (yes, Aldi!) - leggings, top

Primark - swimsuit (in size up), nightwear for hospital (in size up)

Jo Jo Maman Bebe - wrap tops and top (and planning on getting my post-birth big pants here too)

Asos - dress

Yumi - jumper (roomy baggy style so just my usual size)

Fat face - top & smock shirt (their stuff is roomily cut so get away with my usual size)

M&S - pjs in a size up

Mothercare - popper-front nighties

Plus I can still wear all my cardis because I never button them anyway.
