Hi everyone, I have just found out I am pregnant. I have no idea what to do now, I feel normal except having bad cramping for the past week as though my period was coming, is this normal or should I be worried?

Also...when should I make a doctors appointment?
Thanks!

Totally normal.

Don't know about the GP, I didn't see mine at all, just self referred directly to the midwives at the hospital. Give them a call and ask what the procedure is where you are. I didn't see anyone until 13 weeks when I was booked in.

Congratulations!

Thankyou. I am in a total panic as we had just booked an appt to see Gp as I thought there was something wrong!

I have no symptoms though- only symptom are these cramps that won't go away, ive had them for a week and wondered where AF was.

Haven't even told DP yet as he is in a meeting until 7!

Normal, in my case, had cramps for a lot of first trimester. Book in to see GP as soon as you like. Usually they just give basic advice about vitamins, what not to eat and refer you on to the midwife team. Then you'll see mw for your booking in. In my first pregnancy, that happened around week 10. In this (second) pregnancy it happened around week 12.

I had absolutely awful cramping the first time round. I was scanned twice because it was so painful and I had no idea it would hurt so much. Everything is stretching out, its normal - unless you have it only on one side and its accompanied by any bleeding (mine was but it was only breakthrough bleeding - another thing no body warned me about!)

I have only had minimal cramping this time.

Cramping is normal. However I read this as 'camping' and was about to compose a reply saying you'll be fine but to wrap up warm!

Hey greyhorses! I got my bfp today too.. Glad I'm not only one feeling out of their depth x

Greyhorses · 07/09/2015 22:42

Thank you everyone! Funnily enough I hVe just returned from camping Grin

Hi Lou, congrats! I have no idea what to do next either. It seems like a long and scary wait until everything seems okay!

I found it useful to see the GP as soon as I found out I was pregnant at 5wks. It calmed me down a bit to just talk to someone and know I was "in the system". It was totally planned but my emotions were all over the place and I was a bit scared. I came away reassured with advice on vitamins (folic acid and vitamin D) and a little book to read until my booking in at 9wks. I found the first trimester really hard with crippling exhaustion, awful sinusitis, and keeping it a secret from work. Cramping was bad too so that's normal I think.

Second tri has been a breeze so far.

Good luck! Smile

I got a lot of cramping for the first few weeks, after which it totally disappeared. As long as you're not seeing any blood, and it's not always on one side, I was told not to worry about it. It's just your womb going 'what's all this then?'.

I booked in with my GP at 5 weeks to tell them I was pregnant and get referred to the midwife since I couldn't find any self-referral phone numbers anywhere. Turns out my GP wouldn't give me a midwife number either! They said they had referred me and the midwife would call me by week 10. She never did and I ended up calling the local maternity unit in hospital because no-one would give me the midwife's number (thanks GP!). They were great and now I am firmly in the system. But if you get to 10 weeks and don't have anything booked, kick up a fuss like I did - sometimes bits of paper get lost!

Congratulations Flowers. I got cramping during my first trimester. Also found sneezing in the wrong position painful.
My pregnancy was planned but as soon as I got my BFP my emotions were everywhere and was really scared (so much so I banned any talk of it until I got my head around it)

I went to see my Dr when I found out only due to medication I was on. Call up and get booked in with your local midwife. They will want to see you between 6-10 weeks pregnant. The booking appointment as its called will take about an hour and they will refer you for a scan at between 10-14 weeks.

Make sure you are taking folic acid (400mg) and vitamin D (I can't remember the dosage you need but a quick Google will tell you)

Try and get rest when you can. It's hard work growing a human for 9 months.

Hi! I’m not sure if this is an old thread and this is my first time typing on one of these. I just had my positive test today at 12dpo and confirmed with doctor’s that my HCG is 113! But my period is due in 2 days and I have had period like cramps beginning today. I am TERRIFIED because the past 3 months I have gotten pregnant and they ended up being chemical pregnancies…so early miscarriages. Any advice??
