Dealing with hyperemesis gravidarum (HG),

I'm currently around 7/8weeks pregnant (DD 21st April 2016) & literally the day after I had an early scan (one of the most amazing experiences ever listening to the baby's heartbeat for the first time!) I came down out of nowhere with extreme sickness & fatigue. I've lost a stone in just over a week due to not eating & severe dehydration. I later found out from my midwife that I had hyperemesis gravidarum. I was just wondering if anyone out there has suffered as I'm literally sofa & toilet bowl bound. This on top of daily pregnancy stuff (metal taste in the mouth & everything in my food cupboards, fridge & freezer making me sick) is so hard to deal with. At the minute I am living off Lucozade & nibbling at bananas here & there. Does anything help? Confused

With that degree of weight loss you need to see a doctor pretty urgently. You may need drip rehydration and you should be asking (and kicking up a fuss if anyone tries to fob you off) for medication. Not much helps but try to keep hydrated and rest as much as you can. Get an urgent GP appt on monday and do NOT be fobbed of with a GP who tells you it's normal, its not
Sickness and nausea is common, yes, but there comes a point where you need help. I'm 34 weeks now and still being sick - thankfully not as bad as I was at the start but it's incredibly draining.

There's an excellent ongoing he thread on here - have a read of that.

Hi. There are a few support threads around for HG. I don't think unless you have actually experienced it you have any idea how bad it is. I was sick up until around 32/33 weeks and took a combination of drugs each day to try and control it (being sick in excess of 20 times a day sometimes). You need to see your GP Asap and have some meds prescribed. I didn't want to take anything at first but after a couple of times being sent to hospital it was the only way.x

Welcome to the most miserable club known to man! It's utterly utterly shit isn't it?

I agree with skipton you need to make an appointment with your GP ASAP. They may try to fob you off with the 'try ginger this is totally normal' bollocks but it's just that, bollocks. With sickness this extreme you will need medication.

You said you was severely dehydrated, are you still dehydrated now? If so a trip to A&E might be in order. Once you get dehydrated to a certain point I can assure you that the sickness won't improve until you're hydrated again, if you can't drink the only way to do this is with IV fluids. dont worry about making a fuss. They will take dehydration very seriously and quite rightly so.

Join the HG thread you will get a lot of support there, there is also links to websites and phone numbers to help you obtain medication.

It will pass eventually Just take one day at a time. Best wishes!

Buccastem is the only thing that has ever helped me (5 pregnancies all with hg - end up on a drip everytime!)

I recommend the hg thread on pregnancy

Thank you ladies. After posting this I noticed the thread! I'm on Prochlorperazine at the moment, the tablets that you put against your gums, they're horrible! Yeah, I do feel like I'm pestering if I complain but if I'm still like this in the next few days I guess it's going to have to be necessary. I'm still really dehydrated at the moment yes & I'm struggling with day to day stuff, especially work! I have had the midwife go on about ginger & I just can't face it.
Only this time a few weeks ago I was saying how worried I was because I wasn't having any morning sickness or anything! Gosh do I wish I hadn't jinxed it!
