Taking formula to hospital?

Hi I'm sorry if this has been posted a million times before but im using a different app/phone and not sure how to look it up!
I'm planning on BF but last time my baby just wasn't getting enough so the midwifes bottle fed him to fill him up afterwards, they were extremely mean to me for not having my own prepared milk which I had no idea I had to take due to thinking BF would be fine and not being told to!
This was 8 years ago, do you have to take your own milk now?? And how the hell do you decide?! Are the carton prepared ones that you pour into the bottles safe for newborn?
Thanks

Assuming you're planning to bf again then don't bother taking formula - it was out of order for them to be annoyed with you last time. I believe you should take it if you're planning to ff, but they have some for if bf doesn't work out.

Having said that, if they say your baby isn't getting enough milk again and needs topping up, I would push to see someone experienced in breastfeeding who can check latch etc, and find out exactly why they think your baby isn't getting enough. You could put the phone numbers for a couple of bf helplines in your phone (eg LLL). Topping up with formula at that early stage can affect your supply and hence potentially ability to bf as long as you were intending.

Not sure if it the same everywhere but the hospital provided ready made formula when we struggled to BF and for the other new mums who were FF - they also provided quite happily as and when needed. Hope this is now standard practice! Agree with pp...they were quite out of order to be mean about it. The cartons are fine for newborns (and errrr...I am still use ready made cartopns after 6 weeks....is expensive but can't be doing with the faff of mixing formula - lazy mummy!)
Good luck!
