Hi everyone, I'm sure some of you may of seen my many posts (Sorry!)

I had been told I had miscarried and I had decided to take the medical miscarriage option, and I had taken the first tablet in the clinic, and then given the 4 to take at home 48 hours later - the hospital warned me I WILL have big clots (TMI, sorry) and a lot of pain.. I've had neither, so the hospital called me this morning to check on me, but they told me that the tablets hadn't worked, and to go back in on Wednesday, The tablets caused me (TMI) to have diahreah, so don't know if this has stopped them working? Has anyone else experienced this? I'm so fed up now, I want to move on :(

Hi SJ. I had failed medical management earlier this year. The medication does cause daiharrea (sp sorry). That's normal. It won't have stopped it from working. Unfortunately it just doesn't work quite commonly but they don't really tell people that (1 in 5 failure). It's gutting and so frustrating. I insisted on surgical management rather than trying medical again - I just told them I didn't have another day to spend feeling sick and in pain and bleeding but to no effect. I had MVA rather than D&C which I would recommend, no GA and over v v quickly.

Sorry you're going through this, I hope everything gets sorted for you soon. Flowers

Hi sjd, so sorry to hear you're going through this. You may get some more replies if you post this on the miscarriage board, but happy to offer my advice:

I had medical management a couple of months ago, which worked for me, but I was advised at the time that the success rate is 80-90%, so unfortunately it sounds like you've been unlucky (the hospital should have advised you of this). Vomiting and diarrhoea are common side affects of the tablets so it's unlikely that this was anything to do with the failure to work.

Your hospital should be able to talk you through next steps, which could include waiting for a natural miscarriage, trying again with the tablets of going for he surgical option. Fingers crossed you get some solutions soon, the waiting part for me was the worst so I really feel for you Flowers

Sorry you are going through this. Sometimes an embryo adheres very strongly to the uterine wall, which can be a result of genetic abnormality, this can cause medical management unsuccessful and a d&c may be required. It's nothing you've done and there is no way of knowing in advance who it will work for. Just take care of yourself and go to the hospital for your appointment.

Thank you ladies. I don't want to take the tablets again, I just want it over with, I can't keep waiting. I want to get back to normal. :( but will see what they offer. Will they tell me to just do the tablets again? Because I really don't think I could manage it. :( x

I think at the stage you should push for whatever will help you move on - they should at least be sympathetic to your concerns. Are you thinking of pushing for mva/surgery? Be aware that it can be a few days before they can fit you in so you may need to be quite forceful in letting them know what you want in order to push things along xxx

sjd114 · 31/08/2015 12:59

I am thinking of the surgery, as I just cannot wait at home and go to the loo expecting it. I just don't think I'm strong enough. I will push them for it.. its what I want/need x

FWIW I didn't have to push too hard for surgical management - I just told them very firmly, once, that's what I wanted. They didn't question me, were pretty understanding, and I was home again by 3.30pm having had an MVA. Just one thing to bear in mind, you can get an MVA organised a lot quicker I think than a D&C, if you are happy to go that route (think as you don't have to wait for a slot on a proper theatre list, no anaesthetist etc).

Anyway hopefully you won't have to argue for what you need either.

Hi Op

I recently had surgical managment and it was fairly straight forward. It is done under general anaesthetic but the procedure is very quick and I had no pain and recovered almost immediey afterwards. I went in at 9 am and was home by miday. Recovery from an emotionl side is a different story, of course.

Sorry you are going through this and I'm sure the hospital will support you in your choice, especially after a failed medical managment. X

Oh SJ, I'm so sorry you're still going through this. Hopefully you were able to have some discussion and the tablets work. How are you feeling now?

sjd114 · 02/09/2015 21:09

It's breaking my heart. Well I have more tablets and antibiotics. :( x
