Hi mumsnetters,

So I'm pregnant with DC1.
We live in a 2 floor, 2 bed flat on the 2nd and 3rd floor of an apartment block.
Our bedroom takes up the whole second floor as it's in the eves (very long) there is enough room down the end for a nursery section of the room.
I was going to put the cot and baby things down there and decorate it a bit, and maybe put a divider up.
Some friends have said we should put it in the downstairs bedroom because we won't want a baby in the room with us beyond a few months.
What's best? I would rather keep the spare room free for my parents to stay and for a spare bed for DH or I to sleep if we need a rest one night. We often sleep in separate beds even now as DH snores and wakes later than me, so don't want to turn it into a nursery but now I'm thinking maybe we should as baby will need his own room after a few months?
Advice would be great from you wise lot! Smile

I would set it up as a nursery now, maybe put up a temporary divider but don't decorate. Then you can see how you feel in a few months time.

You'll presumably want to have the baby in with you for at least 6 months anyway. If after that time you think you'd rather move them into their own room you could do it then? If you are happy with them in with you still then think about decorating and putting up a more permanent divider?

Thanks for the advice Eminy. I think I will do what you suggested. I think I feel a bit sad because everyone I know who gets pregnant gets so much joy decorating the nursery etc, but I guess I can still make the area baby ready without actually painting or doing anything permanent, and then make my mind up later on. We were considering getting a permanent wall put up to make a third bedroom but obviously don't want to do that until we are sure.
