Anyone got any positive stories to cheer me up?! Currently in hospital as had 2 big contractions out shopping on Thurs and since then feeling pressure and cramps. Had routine MW appt Fri morning and she said it was normal, just my uterus contracting, this is my second baby so I know what Braxton hicks are like and this wasn't it although I am getting them lots aswell, MW wasn't interested in listening to me so I went home. Rang Friend who is also a MW she advised me to ring hospital if I was still worried and they got me in for tests. All looks good with baby and cervix pretty much closed but the fibronectin(?) test they did was positive so they kept me in last night for the steroids. Probs be in another night and see how things go. Hasn't progressed overnight but not much better either. Anyone been in this situation? Am 25 and a half weeks, if I manage to keep baby in for the next day or two will I go home and be signed off work? Will I have to go on bed rest? Obviously I want to do everything in my power to keep baby in but equally don't want to sit with my feet up all day if it won't make any difference to the outcome
Thanks

Hi, my DS was late preterm so very different but didn't want to leave your post unanswered. It's good you've got the steroids in.
Also, mumsnet has a premature birth talk page where you might find more advice than on pregnancy talk www.mumsnet.com/Talk/premature_birth
Hoping your baby stays put va while longer

A friend of a friend had her baby at 26 weeks. She was tiny and very poorly at first BUT she is now a gorgeous, perfectly normal 2 year old. She has come on leaps and bounds and is no different from her peers.
My thoughts are with you. Hope your baby can stay put for a bit longer! Flowers

My friend just had hers at 27 weeks. 6 weeks later he's going home and he's perfect!

Hopefully it was nothing, just a bit of dehydration or something making you have a random cramp. Fingers (and legs!) crossed for you.

My cousin had her twins somewhere between 26-28 weeks. I don't know all they details as I was quite young at the time but her girls are now 7 years old.

If a preterm multiple pregnancy can have a good outcome so can a singleton pregnancy Smile

I'm sorry you're having this worry Flowers stay put babypig! X

My friend was 26+5 her little girl is now 7. She has a genetic condition but would have had that anyway, it's genetic, not a result of the early birth. She's doing really well.

My cousin had her baby at 27 weeks but she was a teeny 1lb 2oz.
She is now a very happy and healthy 2 year old!

Hope all is well, good luck Flowers

A close friend of mine had her twins at 25 weeks, they obviously spent few months in the INCU, but now are perfect, thriving and and super adorable! As pp said, if twins can do it, surely a singleton can do it too! Wishing your little baby to stay put for longer though!

My friend had triplets at 26 weeks and now they're boisterous 3 year olds! Fingers crossed for you x

Yes, a friend at work - she is now in her 20s, and a brilliant person: sporty, frighteningly intelligent and hilarious. Wishing you all the best OP Flowers .

My friend's beautiful daughter was born at, I think, 24 weeks. (My memory's a bit hazy. The outlook was by no means certain for her, and it was very early. Certainly was no later than 26 weeks.)

The girl is seven now, thriving and strong, and can totally keep up/outpace her (athlete) mum.

Sending you good thoughts and good wishes, OP!

Friend of mine had twins at only 24 weeks. One sadly didn't make it, but the other is a happy, healthy 7 year old.

Friends DD born at 25 weeks is packing up to go to Uni next week after getting fab A level results.

Neonatal care is way more advanced now than 18 years ago.

Good luck OP.

Last pregnancy I ended up in hospital at 30 weeks. A girl in the same bay had gone into labour at 24 weeks with twins. One had already does due to twin to twin syndrome but she delivered them both at 25 weeks and the little one born alive is now 4 years old.

I also know a girl who was born at 27 weeks and she's a nurse and has just started her own family. There are plenty of happy endings out there.

As for bed rest, if it's what you need to do, then do it. Anything to keep yourself and baby well. In my first pregnancy I had lots of bleeding which they eventually decided was from my placenta. Small baby, and there was talk of delivery at 32 weeks. Eventually sent home for bed rest. A bit boring but I delivered a boy at 40 weeks who is now a healthy 4 year old. 10 weeks on my arse was worth it xx

I had admissions at 24 weeks, 26, 3 times at 31 weeks, a final admission at 33 weeks, with an EMCS at 36+1

I also had steroids at 24 weeks. DD2 starts school in 2 weeks.
